The Indiana Hoosiers continue to struggle and limp into their match up against the Ohio State Buckeyes. After a tight loss to Iowa on Thursday they have dropped eight of their last nine. Ohio State looks to extend their win-streak to three following a nail bitter victory against Penn State.
Any hopes of winning the conference and having a spot in the tournament is slowly coming to an end. After starting out 12-2, Indiana has only won one game since. Last time out, they battled Iowa until the final minutes eventually falling short of a 77-72 loss. It would have been their second straight win against a ranked opponent. Iowa took advantage of the spotty Indiana defense that didn’t pick up until the second half. Down 46-36 at the half, the Hoosiers kept pace in the final 20 minutes but couldn’t only came within three. The offense performed better overall 49.1 to 45 percent in shooting and out rebounded 33-30. Iowa took advantage of the Indiana miscues scoring 19 points off 12 turnovers. Offensively, three players were in double-digits led by Romeo Langford‘s 22 points. The team defense improved late game which is a sign of improvement but, it is hard to have confidence in a team that is 1-8 in their last nine.
Ohio State Buckeyes
The Buckeyes have struggled to a current 5-6 conference record. They fended off Penn State 74-70 after a back and forth second half but are still 3-6 in their last nine games with a five-game lose streak in between. Sure they have won three of their last four but they were the better team in those games. Surviving against Penn State who only has one conference win does not boost confidence. Luther Muhammad lead the Buckeyes with 20 points with teammates Andre Wesson and CJ Jackson right behind him at 15 points apiece. The offense has scored 70 or more points in their last four contests. For the game, Ohio State finished 22-for-44 (50 percent) from the field and 23-for-29 (79.3 percent) from the foul line. Ohio State is 1-4 in their last five games allowing 70 or more points. In conference play, the Buckeyes are averaging 69 ppg with 14 turnovers per game. With nine games left, no better time than now to take advantage of a struggling Hoosier team.
