The Iowa Hawkeyes defeated Illinois 83-62 in the last round to end a four-game losing streak. Iowa has relied on a terrific offense averaging 79 points a game and have been one of the more efficient teams in the conference averaging 1.38 points per shot. The Hawkeyes are also a really good passing team with 15.9 assists per game. Joe Weiskamp has provided plenty of spacing as he is shooting 42.9% from three on almost four attempts per game. Tyler Cook has been a standout for Iowa thanks to that spacing averaging 14.9 PPG without having made a three all season and has the tenth best field goal percentage in the Big Ten at 53% shooting.
The Michigan Wolverines enter this tournament having won the past two Big Ten Tournaments and begin as the 3 seed. Michigan will hope to rebound from a loss in their regular season finale against in-state rivals Michigan State. Michigan has relied on Zavier Simpson to lead the team as he sits second in assists in the Big Ten at 6.3 per game and is 5th the conference in steals 1.5 a game. The Wolverines have been great this season and have only lost with the conference going 15-5 in the Big Ten and finishing only a game behind the Big Ten champions. Michigan is one of the best teams in the country in defending the three sitting 11th with opponents only shooting 29% from beyond the arc. In addition, the Wolverines have allowed only 58.8 points per game which is second best in the nation and have the least total turnovers this season.

This will be the second meetings between these teams as Iowa took the first with a 74-59 win at home over a then ranked number five ranked Michigan team in a big upset. Michigan struggled from the field in that game shooting just 32% and just 24.2% from three in what was one of the worst performance of the season for the Wolverines. It would take a lot to pull off a second upset of the Wolverines with Iowa needing Cook to absolutely dominate inside and Weiskamp to shoot out of his mind in tonight’s game. Look for Michigan to crowd the paint and slow Cook down to get the win. Although it will be a tough climb to three-peat for the Wolverines they should dispatch Iowa fairly easily. Michigan teams have a habit of playing better as the season goes into March and are a safe bet here to get revenge on the Hawkeyes.
