The last time these two matched up was on January 23rd as Marquette came out this battle the victor in a 79-69 result. The Golden Eagles shot 42% (22-52) from the field and 41% (7-17) from three-point range but most importantly won the game at the free throw line as they made 28 of 32 attempts. On the other hand, the Blue Demons shot 38% (24-63) from the field and a poor 28% (6-21) from three-point range. Although DePaul shot well from the free throw line, making 15 of 19 attempts, it wasn’t enough to dethrone the Golden Eagles in this contest. However, they can redeem themselves in Tuesday’s matchup.

Marquette Golden Eagles (20-4) #10

The Golden Eagles just escaped the second half wrath of Villanova, holding off the Wildcats to secure a one-point victory,66-65. Markus Howard led the way with 38 points along with six rebounds. The Golden Eagles will have another test from DePaul. Sitting at 13-9, the Blue Demons are no joke as they are fairly competitive. The Golden Eagles shouldn’t take them for granted. DePaul have scored key victories in Seton Hall, St. John, Providence, and Xavier. DePaul’s loses have been marginally. So, their record does not truly speak to the talent on the roster. In Tuesday’s matchup, Marquette will need to defend the three-point line as the Blue Demons are 298th in the nation at 31.9%. The Golden Eagles will have to crash the boards as DePaul are not a good rebounding team. Assisting is also not a forte of theirs as they rank 177th in nation with 322. These are the deficiencies of the Blue Demons that the Golden Eagles will need to seek out as important bulletins to address in today’s matchup. However, in order for the the Golden Eagles to truly win this matchup, taking advantage of their strengths will be even more significant. Golden Eagles’ strengths are: FG%=46.1% (92nd), 3P%=39.5% (12th); FT%=76.9% (12th); PTS/G= 78.5 (61st). If Golden Eagles can take advantage of DePaul’s weaknesses while simultaneously taking advantage of their strengths, Marquette will win this matchup.

DePaul Blue Demons (13-9)

The Blue Demons are currently on a two-game win streak after surviving a three-game skid. In their two-game win streak (Providence & Xavier), the Blue Demons have played better defense and outrebounded both Providence and Xavier. However, these are not their strengths as FG%=46.4% (87th), 2P%=53.7% (79th), and FT%=73% are their strengths. They will have to take advantages of these strengths against Marquette. The scouting report of Marquette in terms of their weaknesses are: 2P%=50.7% (194th), TOV= 332 (245th), ORB= 222 (227th), and PF= 317 (171st). The Blue Demons will need to be modest enough from three-point range (31.9%) in order to take advantage of their ability to score two-pointers (53.7%), ranking 79th in the nation. DePaul will also need to outscore Marquette as the Golden Eagles are one of the top offenses in the nation. The key to doing so is keeping Markus Howard in check as he averages 25.2 points per game. Marquette are more efficient from three-point range (39.5%) than they are from two-point range (50.7%) are three-pointers are a less efficient shot than two-pointers. So, Depaul will need to attack the rim often but need to open room to do so by hitting some three-pointers. They will need to crash the offensive boards to limit Marquette’s scoring opportunities as well as force the Golden Eagles to turnover the ball in order to earn an upset win.

FREE NCAA BB Prediction Marquette Golden Eagles vs DePaul Blue Demons

The Golden Eagles are expected to win this matchup but it won’t be easy as the Blue Demons are looking to avenge this loss on Tuesday in their home. The Blue Demons are no slouch as they are a respectable team despite their record. On the other hand, the Blue Demons will need to keep the Golden Eagles off the three-point line as the Golden Eagles are very efficient at 39.5% (12th) and force them to shoot more two-pointers (50.7%) as they are not as efficient there. This is where the Blue Demons are more efficient as they shoot 53.7% (79th) from two-point range. However, there’s a reason why the Golden Eagles are so elite from three-point range and will continue to be in this contest as they will squeeze out a narrow victory.

Pick: Marquette -3.5; Over: 150.5
