The Indiana Hoosiers take on the Michigan Wolverines in the beginning of conference play at the Crisler Center Saturday and will be televised on CBS. Both teams are coming off tough games on Wednesday as the Hoosiers lost to #1 ranked Duke 91-81 and Michigan lost to UNC 86-71.

Indiana had their hands full when they hosted the nation’s best team in Bloomington on Wednesday but did extremely well for most of the game. The Hoosiers actually outscored Duke’s big men 46-44 in the first half and in fact shot 66% from inside the arc. Their game around the rim was solid and they kept the Blue Devils on their toes for most of the game. 6-10 forward Davis turned in a 12 point performance in the second half and held his own versus Carter and Bagley. Unfortunately, Indiana got fatigued and didn’t make a field goal in the last 5:26 in regulation time. They also started missing all of their free throws and this led to the tough 10 point loss but there are positives to be gained from hanging with the best-ranked team in the country. If Indiana is going to keep improving they must work harder on the defensive end. They are giving up 76 points per game average and have already given up 90+ points in two of their games. Today will be another tough test as Michigan is a tough team on both sides of the court.

The Wolverines are off to a good start with a 6-2 record. They are averaging close to 78 points per game but their defense is what is getting the job done as they are only allowing 63 points per game. Their defense did suffer last game in a tough loss versus the Tarheels where center Moritz Wagner scored 20 but it just was not enough. Senior guard Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman did not show up only going 1-6 from the field for two points. He had previously scored in double digits in five of six games and really needs a bounce-back performance today. Michigan has a deep bench and is constantly rotating players which is beneficial to keep them fresh. The loss to UNC will definitely create a sense of urgency to keep up with the best teams in the nation and Michigan has the tools to handle a solid offense like Indiana’s so it is expected that they win this game. The question is, by how much?

Vegas set an opening line of Michigan -8.5 for this game but the line has since gone down by a full point since Indiana’s performance versus Duke. Indiana did show a lot of promise in Wednesday’s game but they won’t be able to keep up with the Wolverines in this one. Michigan is a good shooting team from behind the arc and that could be the difference in this game as Indiana struggles from 3 point range. Michigan knows they must stop Indiana in the paint and will have a game plan in place defensively. Take the home team in this Big 10 matchup and take home the money. Good Luck.
