Nebraska Cornhuskers (18-15) vs. Wisconsin Badgers (22-9)
March 15, 2019, 3:00 PM ET (United Center)
Line: Nebraska Cornhuskers +280 Wisconsin Badgers -340
Spread: Wisconsin -7.5
The Nebraska Cornhuskers enter into the quarterfinals of the Big Ten tournament winners of three straight. They have been led by James Palmer Jr. who has had a spectacular tournament scoring 34 points against Rutgers in round 1 and followed that with 24 points in an upset of Maryland. The Cornhuskers are very short handed as guard Amir Harris is missing this tournament with an ankle injury and Thomas Allen missed Thursday’s game and is questionable for this one. Nebraska had six players play over 25 minutes and has seen Palmer Jr. at least 39 minutes in each of the team’s last four games. Nebraska’s coach Tim Miles appears to be on the hot seat and needs to continue to win to keep his job.
The Wisconsin Badgers have been led by potential National player of the year candidate Ethan Happ who is averaging 17 points a game and 10 rebounds per game. The Badgers have leaned on defense which is eighth in the country allowing only 61 points per game and has held opponents to 39% shooting from the field. Wisconsin has gone 14-6 in the Big Ten and are 7-3 in their last ten games and has yet to lose a game by double figures. Wisconsin is second in the conference in 3-point percentage at 37.4%. Khalil Iverson primarily a defensive stopper has begun to find his offensive game with 13.5 points per game in his final six games of the regular season.

This will be these two teams second meeting of the year as Wisconsin downed Nebraska on the road 62-51 with both stars Palmer Jr. and Ethan Happ both struggling from the field. The winner of this game will face the winner of Michigan State and Ohio State for a chance to play in the Big Ten title game. For Wisconsin, an NCAA Tournament bid is assured while Nebraska would need to win the Big Ten Tournament to get in. For the Cornhuskers, Palmer Jr. will need a huge game but will have a tough time as Khalil Iverson will draw the assignment for Wisconsin and as one of the best defensive players in the country he should slow down Palmer and force him to get his points inefficiently. Wisconsin is big favorites and should have an easy time with Nebraska entering their third game in three days as the Cornhuskers should be exhausted with so many injuries and such a short rotation. This should be a low-scoring defensive battle played at a slow pace which suits the Badgers and should see Wisconsin compete for the Big Ten Tournament title.
