The Northwestern Wildcats will open conference play against the Illinois Fighting Illini Friday night from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL.

The Illinois Fighting Illini will try to rebound from their first loss of the season, an 80-73 loss to Wake Forest last outing. The Fighting Illini shot a horrid 38% on the night while Wake Forest was able to post 51% efficiency. Aaron Jordan led the way offensively with a season-high 20 points on 60% shooting. The Junior guard is having a strong season, scoring at least 12 points in three straight games, and is currently averaging 13 points on a staggering 63% efficiency from the field. Illinois’ leading scorer Leron Black had a bad night in the loss to Wake Forest, recording a 3 for 12 mark from the field for a total of ten points along with seven boards. The 6-foot-7 junior forward has collected at least seven rebounds in three out of his last four games, and is now averaging 14.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game this year. Illinois faced their first real test of the season in the loss to Wake Forest after enjoying the proceeds of an easy schedule in their first six games. They are placed 109th overall in Ken Pomeroy’s College Basketball Rankings.

The Northwestern Wildcats will try to find a measure of consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 6 games. The Wildcats battled back from a late ten-point deficit only to have Georgia Tech hit a last-second layup to hand the Wildcats a 52-51 road loss on Tuesday night. The Wildcats came out real flat and finished with a weak 36% shooting performance from the field, while limiting the Yellow Jackets to only 37%. Brian McIntosh played well in the losing effort, scoring 18 points on 8 of 18 shooting and added six rebounds. The senior guard is having a solid season so far, placing second in team scoring with 15.7 points per game. Wildcats’ top producer Scottie Lindsey had a horrendous night in the loss, going 0 for 8 from the field for zero points and zero rebounds. The senior guard had scored at least 19 points in three straight games prior to Tuesday’s disgusted performance. The Wildcats have been unable to sustain any momentum since starting the season with two wins. They have gone 2-3 in their last five with their losses coming from Texas Tech, Creighton and Georgia Tech.

FREE College Prediction Northwestern Wildcats vs. Illinois Fighting Illini

Northwestern is the better team in this matchup and they should come through with a decisive win. Illinois has enjoyed an easy schedule which has led to their over anticipated 6-1 record, however they lost their first real test in an 80-73 road loss to Wake Forest earlier in the week. The Wildcats just limited Georgia Tech to 52 points and their talented trio of Bryant McIntosh, Vic Law, and Scottie Lindsey should make a huge impact on this game and lead them to a strong victory.

Roddy talks to me about his visit and his upcoming decisions (plural) here:

Excited for #Evanston @NUMensBball Gameday this year!!!!

The 6-7 Vic Law of @NUMensBball played last season at about 190 lbs. But an unusual surgery means more bulk & better stamina:

He's a veteran, and he's got a great sense of humor.

@NUMensBball's @Followthe_LAW is back for one final season.
