ESPN NCAA Basketball Picks Texas Tech Red Raiders  vs Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoma Sooners enters this game off of a 74-64 victory over Oklahoma State to get back to their winning ways after losing to Kansas to begin the new year. The Sooners are led by Christian James who is one off the best rebounding guards in the country at 7.8 rebounds per game he has had at least 9 rebounds in his last 7 games and has had 10 in six of those games and has had a double-double in his last two games. James is currently second in the Big 12 with six double-doubles on the season. The Sooners defensive rebounding has been the best in the conference so far with 32.7 rebounds a game and is second in defensive rebound rate at 74.7% so far. Oklahoma looks to be at full strength as Jamuni McNeace is probable with a knee injury for this game.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are having one of the best starts to the seasons in their programs history as they begin conference play having only lost to Duke on the road. Texas Tech has one of the conference’s best scorers in Jarrett Culver who currently sits second in points per game at 18.7 and fourth in assists at 4.1. However, Culver struggled against Kansas State on Saturday which saw him manage only 9 points on 2-7 shooting from the field and only making 5 of his 10 free throw attempts which dropped his free throw percentage to 70% on the season although he is still shooting 56% from the field for the year. Texas Tech has the been the best defense in the nation holding teams to just 32.8% shooting from the field. They also rank second in points allowed per game at just 52.3 PPG while also being the only team in the country not to allow a team to score 70 yet.

NCAA Basketball Scores Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Oklahoma Sooners

This Big 12 matchup will feature two of the best defensive teams in the conference with Tech putting their 10-game unbeaten home record on the line. Tech will need to keep Oklahoma off the boards as they lead the Big 12 in rebounding with over 43 a game while Texas Tech only allows 30.9 a game. The Red Raiders haven’t lost to the Sooners at home since February of 2015 and have defended their home-court in the last three matchups in Lubbock. Oklahoma will need to create turnovers and will also need Christian James to have a high scoring game. The Red Raiders should win however with their size and rebounding they should pull away at home in the second half in what is sure to be a defensive struggle.

Pick: Texas Tech -6.5
