ESPN NBA Picks Colorado St. Rams vs. San Diego St. Aztecs

The San Diego St. Aztecs are traveling to Colorado St. to face the Rams, in the famous Moby Arena. The Aztecs are coming off a win over Utah St., and are winners in four of their last five games. They come into this game 6-4 against the rest of the Mountain West Conference, sitting fourth in the conference.

San Diego St.

The Aztecs have had an up and down season. They have had some big victories over UNLV and Utah St. This has put them into the conversation at the top of the Mountain West Conference. They have also dropped games to Brown, Air Force, Duke (obviously), and a blowout loss, dolled out by Iowa State.

The Aztecs are led by Senior, Devin Watson, and Sophomore, Jalen McDaniels. These two carry a lot of the work load for the Aztecs. Both are averaging over 16 ppg, with McDaniels leading the team in rebounding (8.5 rpg) and steals (1.2 spg), and Watson leading assists (4.7 apg). The Aztecs are ranked 147th in the nation by KenPom. Unless they have a huge run here to end the season, into the conference tournament, I do not expect San Diego St. to make the tournament

Colorado St.

Colorado St. started off the season with three straight victories. Those conquests were against terrible teams, but still no losses. They then hit a skid, losing 10 of their next 12 games, and removing them from any contention this season, barring a magical run in the conference tournament. Both Colorado St. and San Diego St. have had unfortunate luck of being in the same conference as the seventh best team in the nation, Nevada Wolf Pack.
The Rams are rated 185th in the nation by KenPom, two spots above the University of Hawaii, who are not known for their basketball prowess. They have had a consistent rotation of six players, and don’t get a ton of production out of most of their players. One of their few bright spots for Colorado St. is Nico Carvacho. He is a red-shirt Junior, who is seeing his draft stock rise this season. He is leading the Rams with 15.8 ppg and 13.0 rpg. His 13 rebounds per contest is first in the nation, and he is set to eclipse the Colorado St. record for rebounds tonight. He only needs three, so this is all but secured.

I think this is going to be a close game. No matter if one team is much better than the other, during conference play, teams tend to keep games closer. We are going to witness history, as Colorado St. will have a new record holder in their books. That is definitely a reason to tune into this game. Both teams need a win here. Unfortunately, the highlight of Colorado St.’s night will be the rebound record. Besides that I’m not expecting them to cover here

Pick: Under 147.5
