Draftkings Picks Virginia Cavaliers vs. Florida State Seminoles
Some ACC Tournament action with 1st ranked Virginia taking on 4th ranked Florida State. Virginia has had a great season and they ended on a nine-game win streak. They will look to carry that momentum into this matchup. Florida State had a great season as well and ended on a five-game win streak.
Virginia went 29-2 on the season and 16-2 against conference opponents. Virginia is led by Kyle Guy, De’Andre Hunter and Ty Jerome. Guy is a junior guard leading the team in scoring with 15.8 PPG and 4.5 RPG. Hunter, a sophomore guard is right behind Guy with 15.2 PPG and 5.2 RPG. Jerome is a junior guard averaging 13.1 PPG and leading the team in assists with 5.5 per game.
Virginia only played against Florida State once during the season and they prevailed with a 65-52 win. Virginia took over the first half and dominated taking a 19 point lead heading into the half. It was comeback time for Florida State and they did do better on the defensive side of the ball but were unable to make a significant scoring run and Virginia took the win. It honestly wasn’t that great of a game for Virginia. All the Virginia starters struggled to shoot the ball except for Kyle Guy, who scored 21 points on 7-11 shooting. Virginia actually had a bench player step up that really helped them get the win, Braxton Key who scored 20 points on 7-11 shooting as well. The keys to victory for Virginia were defense and bench play. Virginia forced Florida to take contested jump shots throughout the game and they forced them out of the paint resulting in 6-23 from three. Defense has always been Virginia’s strength and they used it to get this win over Florida State. Bench play also played a significant role, Key stepped up when the starters were struggling and without his performance, this may have been a win for Florida State. If Virginia wants to get the win their focus has to be on the defensive side of the ball. It is their best skill as a team and if they continue playing defense at a high level it will be hard for any team to beat them.
Florida State went 26-6 on the season and 13-5 against conference opponents. The Seminoles’ are led by Mfiondu Kabengele, Terance Mann and Trent Forrest. Kabengele is a sophomore forward leading the team in scoring with 12.9 PPG. Mann is a senior guard averaging 11.4 PPG and leading the team in rebounding with 6.4 per game. Forrest is a junior guard averaging 9 PPG and leading the team in assist per game with 3.8.
Florida State in their only game against Virginia struggled to find their offensive game. No player on Florida State scored in double digits and though they got to the line more than Virginia they were unable to capitalize on free throws. They shot 16-27 from the line, 11 free points were taken away because they couldn’t make their foul shots. Those points could have changed the score dramatically. They also settled for threes going 6-23. Virginia did a great job at taking away the drive lanes and instead of fighting against the defense Florida State settled for contested threes. If Florida State wants to get the win in this game they will have to capitalize on their free points, they can’t afford to not take the easy points especially against a great defensive team like Virginia. They will also have to be patient on the offensive side of the ball, they need to take their time, run some plays and get the best shot every time down the court.

Virginia has proved to be one of the best teams in the country. They are a great defensive team and it seems as though their defense gives them the spark they need on the offensive end. Florida State has had a great season, but they have struggled against high ranked teams. I think Virginia will get the win, I believe their defense will be too good for Florida State to get past. Expect Virginia to win and advance in the tournament.
