Line & Odds: Cincinnati +130/Xavier -135 — Over/Under: 150

The Xavier Musketeers host the Cincinnati Bearcats for this cross town rivalry.

The no. 21-ranked Xavier Musketeers are coming off a bounce back victory over the then no. 16 ranked Baylor Bears 76-63 after a tough loss to undefeated Arizona State.  They are led by senior guards Trevon Bluiett and J.P. Macura, who lead the team in scoring and steals. Bluiett is averaging a team-high 19.7 PPG on 53.7% shooting to go with 6.1 RPG, 3.3 APG and 1.0 SPG while Macura has averaged 14.6 PPG on 59.3% shooting, 5.1 RPG, 3.3 APG and a team-high 1.9 SPG.  Xavier is one of the better team in the country as they average 89.0 PPG (20th in CBB) on 55.0% shooting (2nd in CBB). This team definitely knows how to get buckets in a hurry and efficiently. Defensively, they haven’t been as solid, but it’s been good enough. The Musketeers allow 69.0 PPG (117th in CBB) but on just 38.2% shooting (43rd in CBB). The third double digit scorer on the team includes junior forward Kaiser Gates with 11.3 PPG and sophomore forward Tyrique Jones averages a team-high 6.9 RPG and 1.3 BPG. Xavier have been on a roll in their building as they’ve won seven of  their last 10 home games.

The no. 11-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats will look to continue their impressive start to the season as they look to improve to 8-0. This is their first true test of the season as well as their first road game. Cincinnati are a good offensive team as they are averaging 87.9 PPG (26th in CBB) on 49.0% shooting (53rd in CBB). They have four double-digit scorers and are led by junior forward Gary Clark, who practically does it all averaging a team-high 13.7 PPG and 8.1 RPG with a 53.4 FG% and 2.0 APG. Clark has also contributed on the defensive end averaging 1.3 SPG and 1.1 BPG. Junior guard Jacob Evans has been a good as well averaging 11.7 PPG on 50% shooting with 3.4 RPG, 4.3 APG and a team-high 1.6 BPG. Jarron Cumberland and Kyle Washington are the other double-digit scorers for the team as they average 11.0 and 10.4 PPG respectively. Defense is the strength of this club and the reason they are undefeated. The Bearcats are holding teams to just 57.3 PPG (4th in CBB) on 34.6% shooting (2nd in CBB) and they are also one of the best rebounding teams in the country with a +15.4 rebounding margin (2nd in CBB).

Cover The Spread 365 NCAAB betting tips:

  • 13-2 ATS in their last 15 games
  • 6-1 SU in their last 7 games
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of their last 7 games

  • 5-0 SU in their last 5 games
  • 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of their last 5 road games

Both these teams come in hot and expecting big things this year. I love defense and the Bearcats have showed their ability to play on that end at an elite level. The only problem is that their competition hasn’t been that good. So, is their defense real or just a result of their schedule? Only time will tell, but for now I’m putting my bet on the upset with Cincinnati.
