FREE NCAA FOOTBALL PICK: Colorado State Rams vs Florida Gators

This Saturday, the high mountains will head to tropical Florida, as two completely different programs will hit the field. The Colorado State Rams are from the average Mountain West conference and the Florida Gators are from the top conference in all of college football the SEC. The Rams are coming off their first win of the season, as they beat the Arkansas Razorbacks. Colorado State started the season with three straight home games and could only muster up the one win. The Rams will look to start their first road game of the season with an upset win. Meanwhile, the Gators have had a blowout win over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers and a loss to the Kentucky Wildcats. Kentucky’s win ended their 31 game losing streak to the Gators. Anyway, Florida showed that they can still put up the points and maybe they can slowly be a ranked team again. The Gators have five ranked teams to look at in the SEC, including the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide. With Florida being in a tough conference, this matchup can help them practice their playing style before testing he waters in the conference games. The quarterbacks for this game are K.J. Carter-Samuels vs Feleipe Franks.

The Colorado State Rams are off to an okay start to the season. The Rams had a 43-34 week one loss to the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and K.J. Carter-Samuels was the star of the game. Carter-Samuels was 34/50, 537 yards, and five touchdown passes. Despite the week one loss, the Rams showed that they have a solid quarterback, who can lead this team. In week two, not much happens for Colorado State, as they lost to their rival Colorado Buffaloes 45-13. The only bright spot for the Rams was Olabisi Johnson getting six catches, for 82 yards on the day. Then finally, Colorado State had something to cheer about, as they beat the Razorbacks 34-27. The Rams did got the victory in dramatic fashion, by scoring 17 points in the fourth quarter, and shutting out the Razorbacks to complete the comeback. Carter-Samuels was 32/47, with 389 yards, and two touchdown passes. On the receiving end, Preston Wilson had a big day with 12 catches, for 154 yards, and two touchdowns. So, what we have learned from the Rams three games into the season is that Carter-Samuels can be a beast at times, the team trails at halftime, no standout rushers, and mostly score in the second half. Colorado State needs to get their rushing game going, limit the damage on defense, start fast on offense, and let Carter-Samuels do his thing. If the Rams can fix some of these issues, then maybe there will be an interesting fourth quarter awaiting at the Swamp.

The Florida Gators have already had two conference games against teams that were ahead of them last season. The Gators were able to chomp away against Charleston with a 53-6 win. Florida fell last week to Kentucky 27-16. So, we have two different games here that pretty much had the same player statistics. Both games, Feleipe Franks threw for over 200 yards, was up there in rushing his team, and took care of the ball. Other than that, Franks had no help. The Gators defense didn’t stop the rush in the Kentucky game and allowed two Wildcats to get over 100 yards rushing. Florida has the stronger team this weekend for sure, but they need to get the rushing game going, get a standout wide receiver, and continue to have good first half’s.  This is the Gators tune up game, as they will start conference play up next week. Florida was 4-7 last year and probably want to get back to being a ranked team again someday. The best time to fix the issues is early on in the season against a lower team.

Cover The Spread 365

So, the Rams will look for a fast start on the scoreboard, but most likely will find themselves down three or more touchdowns at the half. The Gators will come out strong and won’t slow down until some time in the fourth quarter. Both these teams can put up the points and give them up too. Florida would like to end its third straight home game with a solid, all around win. We shall see if the Carter-Samuels skills show up as well. All in all, Florida will cover the spread with a 42-21 win.

Pick: Florida Gators -20.5
