Both the Auburn Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers have struggled to start their seasons in SEC play. Tennessee looks for the first conference win since 2016 while Auburn looks to get back on track after a loss to Mississippi State.

Auburn Tigers Betting News

The Tigers began the season with a bang by taking down a Washington, a top-10 team. Since then, they have not faired so well with two losses in conference and three mediocre wins. After the season-opener, Auburn beat Alabama State. But they followed that up with a one-point loss to LSU to begin SEC play. They then earned their first conference win of the season against Arkansas, but they are 1-5, so not an impressive win. They won their second consecutive game against Southern Miss before losing to Mississippi State. A large part of their struggle that has led to their 4-2 record is the offense.

Not only has the passing game been inconsistent, but the rushing attack hasn’t piled up yards either. In six games, quarterback Jarrett Stidham has thrown for more than 250 yards just once. And other than the game against Alabama State, there has only been one 100-yard rusher. Stidham has 1177 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions on the season so far which doesn’t look good for mid-season numbers. JaTarvious Whitlow leads the team on the ground with 414 yards ad four touchdowns on 69 carries. Cam Martin has 251 yards and a touchdown on 67 carries. Ryan Davis and Darius Slayton lead the team in receiving on the season. Davis 252 yards on 29 receptions while Slayton has 246 yards and a touchdown on 17 catches.

Tennessee Volunteers Betting News

The Volunteers have not hit the ground running under Jeremy Pruitt like they had hoped. They began the season with a big loss to West Viriginia, 40-14. They then won their next two games against East Tennessee State and UTEP by a combined score of 73-3. But they then had big losses in back-to-back games against SEC East opponents. In the first conference game of the season after going winless in SEC play during 2017 they took a beating by Florida 47-21. They then followed that up with another beat-down, losing 38-12 to Georgia. The running game has been ok, but the passing game has been almost non-existent.

Jarrett Guarantano has thrown for only 801 yards and four touchdowns in five games. His game-high for yards is only 172 yards. The rushing game has been a mix between multiple backs, three different players with over 200 yards. Tim Jordan leads with carries and yards with 258 yards and two touchdowns on 63 carries. Ty Chandler is close behind with 247 yards and a touchdown on 40 carries. Madre London is tied with with Jeremy Banks for the team-lead in rushing touchdowns with three a piece. London also has 205 yards while Banks has 161 yards. Marquez Callaway leads the team at receiver with 231 yards on 16 receptions.

Though Auburn’s offense hasn’t looked as good as it can, they still have way more firepower than Tennessee can handle. Tennessee has a long way to go before they are competing consistently with SEC opponents. They should at least win a conference game this season, but it wont be this one. They might be able to keep it closer than the spread, but I doubt it. If they are giving up 40 to a team like Florida, they defintely can do the same to Auburn. Auburn just needs to show up like they did against Washington to start the season. And after a loss to Mississippi State, I’m sure they will come out with some anger.

Pick: Auburn -15.5
