This national championship teams will feature two top teams in the SEC, fighting for not only the title, but solidifying their presence as the best team in th best conference.

Although Alabama has been here before many times in recent memory, they come into the title game as the #4 seed. They squeaked by Ohio State to earn the fourth seed, and haven’t looked back since. Many people questioned that decision since Alabama didn’t even play for their respective conference championship game, but it seemed to light a fire under the squad. They were able to win decisively against the Clemson Tigers 24-6 in a rematch of the title game last year. If they were to win tonight, it would be Alabama’s fifth championship in the last nine years. Although their offense isn’t the best, their defense has been sensational, ranking first in a number of categories including points per game and yards per game. Overall on the season, QB Jalen Hurts has completed over 60% of his passes for 2,125 yards with 17 touchdowns and only one interception. Hurt also leads the team in rush attempts with 148, but RB Damien Harris leads the team with 983 yards and eleven touchdowns. On the receiving end, Calvin Ridley has been the go-to target, catching nearly 4 times as many passes as the next person closest to him in receptions. Henry Ruggs III caught the most touchdown passes with five. Defensively, Ronnie Harrison had 41 solo tackles and 70 total tackles, which leads the team. Mack Wilson had four picks and Raekwon Davis had 7.5 sacks on the year.

The Georgia Bulldogs obviously had a great season, but not many people expected them to be where they are now. After winning their first nine in a row and getting promoted to #1, they lost badly to Auburn. However, the Bulldogs got their revenge by winning the SEC title game 28-7. Statistically, Georgia has a better offense, but their defense isn’t as good as the Crimson Tide’s. Georgia QB Jake Fromm completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,383 yards with 23 TD’s and 5 interceptions over the course of the season. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel have been excellent this season, combining for 347 carries, 2,449 rushing yards, and 31 touchdowns. Javon Wims was the main pass-catcher for Georgia this season with 44 receptions, 704 yards, and 7 TD’s. Roquan Smith had 76 solo tackles and 124 total tackles. He also had 5.5 sacks and 11.5 tackles for losses.

Alabama coach Nick Saban has never lost in a championship game to one of his former coordinators. Kirby Smart, the head coach of Georgia, was once the defensive coordinator for Alabama. Due to the experience the Crimson Tide have, along with their exceptional defense, expect them to come up with a critical turnover late that can seal the deal.
