NCAA CFB FUTURE WIN TOTALS OVER/UNDER UTAH UTES

The Utah Utes had a solid 2016-2017 season finishing the year 9-4. The Utes started off the season hot jumping out to a 7-1 record. Many thought they were going to challenge USC for the Pac-12 South Title, but then the Utes lost 3 of their last 4 conference games. Because of this, USC ran away with the division and the Utes finished the regular season 8-4. Utah was selected to the Fosters Farmer Bowl and got the win over Indiana 26-24 finishing the season 9-4. They also finished the season ranked 23rd in the AP poll. The Utes hope to build upon this season and make a push towards a New Years Six Bowl. However, Vegas predicts Utah will take a huge fall in 2017 and maybe miss a bowl game.

UTAH UTES 6.5 WINS OVER/UNDER: OVER

The Pac-12 South will be very competitive again this year. This is one of the main reasons why the Utes are not predicted to win many games. They have to play the likes of USC, Washington, UCLA, and Colorado who will be very strong teams this season. The bottom of the division also has some solid teams that could upset Utah. In order to have a shot in the division, Utah will need to win the easy games on their schedule plus win in a few upsets.

The Utes did not have a successful end to the season when they played the top teams in the Pac-12. One of the main issues for them in those games and in the season was their inconsistency on defense. Utah ranked 51st in total defense, 101st in passing defense, and 30th in rushing defense. Although Utah struggled some in those categories, they ranked top 10 in the nation in a few others. The Utes ranked 8th in sacks and one major reason for this was Hunter Dimick. Dimick ranked 3rd in the nation in sacks with 14.5. They also ranked 9th in interceptions. Marcus Williams was their best secondary player tallying 5 interceptions during the season. In the high-scoring Pac-12, defensive will be the key to success. Utah will need their returning players such as Lowell Lotulelei to step up big on the defensive side of the ball.

The Utah offense was also pretty decent last year. The Utes ranked 30th in rushing, 49th in total offense, 72nd in passing. Although Utah was a great running team last year, expect a different scheme from them this year. Troy Taylor is their new offensive coordinator from Eastern Washington. At that school, he focused on the air game so expect Utah to throw the ball much more than last season. The Utes also had their star running back, Joe Williams, drafted along with 4 members of their offensive line. This means the ground game won’t be as dominate which might open up the passing game.

Outlook: I think the Utah Utes will win around 7-8 games this season. Although Utah is playing in a competitive division, their out of conference schedule gives them a few locked wins. With that said, if they can win a few conference games they will get over that 6.5 game prediction. The main key for the Utes will be their offense which lost a lot of talent and got a new coordinator. If they can remain solid on offense and defense, they have a chance at another good season.
