Two of Ohio’s college teams, the Akron Zips and Toledo Rockets, head to Detroit to face off for the Mid-American Conference Championship.
Underdog Akron finished the regular season at 7-5 after their 24-14 victory over rival Kent State. This helped them clinch the MAC East Division title for the first time since 2005. Van Woods Jr. led rushers with nine carries for 55 yards. Kobie Booker led receivers with a reception for a 25-yard touchdown. Backup QB Kato Nelson brought in a 30 percent completion rate, 69 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Nelson has been replacing starting QB Thomas Woodson after he was suspended for the last three games for violating team rules. Woodson leads the team with a 58.3 percent completion rate, 1,742 yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions. His return to the field for this game is unknown.
Toledo clinched the MAC West Division Title after their dominant 10-37 victory over Western Michigan. They will compete for the championship for the first time since 2004 where they have been overshadowed by last week’s opponents since then. QB Logan Woodside threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns. Terry Swanson led the rushers with 21 carries for 94 yards and a touchdown. This one marked Swanson’s 12th rushing touchdown this season. Jon’Vea Johnson led the receivers with four receptions for 96 yards. The team led 17-3 at halftime with a one-yard touchdown by Shakif Seymour before extending it to 31-10 with additional touchdowns by Danzel-McKinley Lewis and Diontae Johnson.
CTS365 Free NCAA FB Akron vs. Toledo Prediction
Both teams stopped their own championship droughts that followed them for some time, but the reason for this game is more than pride. This game is a rematch of week 7 when Toledo defeated Akron 48-21. To the Zips, this is more than just revenge. This is for championship glory. However, there is questioning in the offense, especially as to if Woodson will be the starter of this game. The Rockets, on the other hand, have been at their best all season. Their offense and defense are second to none in the MAC. This is the most important battle to date for both teams, but when it comes to who has the better advantage because of players, this round will have to go to Toledo.
