Preview: Wake Forrest Demon Deacons Vs North Carolina State Wolfpack
Tonight’s match ACC match up features #14 NC State and Wake Forrest which can be seen on ESPN tonight at 7:30 Eastern.
NC State is currently 6-2 and has been a mainstay in the top 25 this season and 4th ACC Atlantic standings. The Wolfpack are coming of a convincing against Florida State (47-28), rebounding from their tough loss against Syracuse the week before, in which freshman running back Ricky Pearson Jr rushed for 3 touchdowns. They have a powerful offense; besides for their loss against Clemson where they got blown out (understandable- Clemson is #2 in the country with an excellent defense) they have been very consistent this year putting points on the board. NC State QB, Ryan Finley is coming off a strong performance against Florida State (240 yards, 3 Touchdowns) and is getting serious buzz as being an early pick in this coming NFL draft.
Wake Forrest comes into tonight’s game at 4-5 and 6th in the ACC Atlantic standings (1-4 in conference) after losing to Syracuse last week 41-24. They have have been consistent in scoring points (30th in total offense) but it has been a relatively rough year for the Demon Deacons. They have a few solid wins this year against traditionally strong programs such as Louisville (even though it has been a major down year for the Cardinal this year), but 6th in their standings in not where they want to be. Moreover, the Demon Deacons were dealt a major blow; starting QB Sam Hartman is out for the remainder of the season with a leg injury and they will turn to red shirt freshmen, Jamie Newman against NC State tonight. Newman has only attempted 15 career passes so far so this will be a major test for him and the Wake offense tonight.
Both teams are top 30 in total offense; NC State ranks 27th and Wake ranks 30th. Neither team is in the top 50 in total defense up until this point (before the Hartman injury).

Free NCAAF Pick: Wake Forrest at NC State
The Deamon Deacons have been a frisky team this year. While they had a few duds against Powerhouses like Clemson (like most of Clemson’s opponents this year) and Syracuse, they are a very capable offensive team and they play teams tough. They have scored a lot of pints against some really good defenses this year. Having said that, NC State is 6-1 in their last 7 against teams with a losing record and have been great when they have played on Thursday night (5-1 in their last 6 Thursday games). They are just in another class of the ACC than Wake is and Wake is without their starting QB. Not a great spot to be in if your’e Wake. I think NC State wins quite comfortably tonight.
