FREE NFL Pick Arizona Cardinals 2019 Win Total

Just a few short years ago, the Cardinals were a model organization, one that made it back to the playoffs with a solid infusion of young studs on defense and veteran firepower on offense, the flamboyant coaching of Bruce Arians, and the magic touch of old man Carson Palmer. In 2019, all of that is gone, the Cardinals needed just one year before replacing their 1st-year head coach and 1st year, top-10 pick rookie quarterback, following a disastrous 2-14 season in 2018.

Kyler Murray has been handed the reins at quarterback and Kliff Kingsbury the keys to what could be one explosive offense, but the Cardinals are not exactly an elite team. For 2019, they’re projected to be far from one. The team’s Super Bowl odds are so long they aren’t even listed; over +8000 odds! That is so big that it’s insane to even look at. Their projected over/under win total is 5, a number that seems low, but could be even lower once the season plays out. With a rookie QB and rookie head coach, expectations are low, but this a young, athletic team that might have the chance to shock a few people along the way.

Under 5 wins (-110)

Arizona’s projected 5 wins (from BetOnline.ag) is the equal lowest in the NFL, with the Miami Dolphins, a team that many believe is tanking for the year ahead. Ouch. There is some upside though; Heisman winner Kyler Murray played out one of the best college seasons in recent memory in 2018 at Oklahoma, his athleticism and upside is off the charts, and his new head coach is an innovative playcaller with high potential too. There are pieces around the field, but the big concern is definitely the O-line, and that line will make or break Arizona’s season.

The issue is, Arizona’s offensive line is TERRIBLE. Adding Marcus Gilbert and JR Sweezy is solid, and returning youngsters Mason Cole and DJ Humphries show good signs, but this line is full of painfully average guys or inexperienced signs, and this line is what got Josh Rosen killed last season on the way to a 2-14 season. This line is improved, and so are the weapons (Andy Isabella and Hakeem Butler could shine), but this is a young team that will be relying heavily on rookies. This doesn’t work out often, and it would take Kyler Murray putting up computer game numbers to succeed with this Arizona team right away.

Over 5 wins (+110)

But look at it like this; Kyler Murray was the #1 pick for a reason, as a transcendent, game breaking talent with the arm (and legs) to change the culture of a franchise. Isabella and Butler have bucketloads of potential, Christian Kirk is improving, Larry Fitzgerald is still performing on an outstanding level, David Johnson will get more opportunities to succeed in the air in this unique Kliff Kingsbury scheme, and this offense has enough weapons to start a civil war if they live up to their potential.

The defense has potential, especially with Vance Joseph joining the staff as DC. Patrick Peterson suspended for 6 games will hurt, but he was probably gonna get traded anyways. Chandler Jones is a stud who has 30 sacks over the last 2 seasons, rookie Byron Murphy will get the chance to shine right away at CB, Budda Baker made major strides as a safety in 2018, and there is some young talent. There is potential for the over here, with a coaching staff ready to reignite the roster in Arizona after a couple of poor and mediocre seasons.

Kyler Murray will inherit a poor offense. One with potential, yes? But last year, it was straight up poor. He will be asked a lot for a rookie QB, likewise for his rookie HC coming straight from the college ranks. They should improve with a mobile quarterback, but don’t expect major strides in record. They were 2-14 last season for a reason after all.

There is potential, but it will be hard for that potential to be realised in year one of the Kyler-Kingsbury era in the desert.

PICK: Under (+110)
