Baltimore Ravens vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Baltimore Ravens (8-6) vs Los Angeles Chargers (11-3)
NFL Football: Saturday, December 22, 2018, 8:20 PM (StubHub Center)
Line and Odds: Chargers -5, Over/Under 43.5

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens come into the matchup coming off a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Ravens made it look easy against the Bucs. They did what they always have done run the ball. The Ravens have averaged over 200 yards on the ground they run the ball 80 percent of the time. Since Lamar Jackson has become the quarterback the Ravens have looked good. They are looking to try and stay with the Pittsburg Steelers. The AFC North is still up for grabs and possibly a high playoff seed. This game will be important to the Ravens. They have the team to catch the Steelers. Now they head on the road to Los Angeles and play the upstart Chargers.

The Ravens have been good on both sides on the ball. They are currently ranked 11th overall. Surprisingly 2nd in rushing. This is how they win the pound the rock. If a defense can stop the run which most have struggled against them to do that. They are ranked 2oth in the pass. Jackson is not what many would call a pocket passer. If he is forced to throw the defense can win. Now on defense, they still are the top-ranked defense in the league. How they do that is beat a team all over. They make sure that if you’re a passing team they bring pressure. If a team likes to run the ball they swarm and keep the run game at bay. They have faced good offenses all year and they will get another one this week.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers come into week 16 with a huge win over their division rival Kansas City Chiefs. They like the Ravens have a shot at winning the division. If the Chargers can win and the Chiefs lose the Chargers will be the AFC number 1 seed. Now it took the Chargers a surprising two-point conversion to pull off the win. Normally this is the time of the year that the Chargers fade away. This Chargers team is different and maybe it’s time to start paying attention to Phillip Rivers. He has been overlooked and he is a big part of what is happening this season.

The Chargers come in with the 6th ranked offense. They, unlike the Ravens, are top 10 is passing. But then again Rivers is not a running style quarterback even those he does use his feet occasionally. The Chargers will be getting back Melvin Gordon back it will help the running game that ranks 12th. They like the Ravens have a top 10 ranked defense they rank 8th overall. Their primary job is to slow down the Ravens running game. If they can do that and make Jackson throw the offense should have enough to beat the Ravens defense.

This game will be a tight one. Both teams are chasing the same thing a division title and a higher playoff seed. This game is important to both teams. Both teams will have to counteract the other to win. The Ravens and Chargers defenses will have to be on top of their games. This might become an offensive slugfest. Or it could be a defensive game with low points. Both teams will also be looking at the scoreboard to see how the Steelers and Chiefs are doing. This will be one of those games that fans of the NFL will not want to miss.

My Pick: Chargers -5
