It’s the best time of the year if you’re a football fan- Super Bowl LIII is finally upon us and the anticipation for who the next NFL champion will be is exciting. However, the Super Bowl MVP race is almost just as intriguing.  While quarterbacks Tom Brady and Jared Goff are currently the favorites to win MVP (obviously depending on which team is going to win), there are some longshot odds for other players on both sides of the field.

On the defensive side, Aaron Donald is the ultimate X factor for the Los Angeles Rams. For the regular season, he recorded 59 tackles and 20.5 sacks and is again the leading sack leader in the NFL.  Donald will prove to be a huge task for the New England Patriots offensive line, along with Michael Brokers and Ndamukong Suh.  The three defensive tackles had 26 sacks combined this regular season.  The Philadelphia Eagles defensive line ultimately changed the outcome of the 2018 Super Bowl, and expect it to be the same with the Rams defensive line led by possible Super Bowl MVP Aaron Donald.

On the offensive side of the ball, expect receiver Julian Edelman and tight end Rob Gronkowski to also garner MVP attention.  However, in terms of long-shot MVPs, consider rookie running back Sony Michel.  While Todd Gurley is the running back garnering the most attention, Michel has been critical to the Patriots’ postseason success.  While it will be tough with the Rams defensive line if Michel breaks through expect him to get the coveted MVP trophy.

With this in mind, these star players are surprisingly under the radar when it comes to MVP odds.  While Brady and Goff are the top two players to win it, these names should not be brushed aside.  When the Super Bowl comes, it will be a test to see who really shows up in the biggest moment of professional football.

At +1600, Gurley is actually one of the favorites to win Super Bowl MVP behind the quarterbacks. But this number should be much lower considering Gurley’s numbers. The Rams star running back had a combined 1,831 yards and 21 touchdowns this season despite playing just 14 games.

A tight end has never won Super Bowl MVP, but if there was ever a guy to break the mold it could be Gronk. 2018 was another down year for the Patriots star tight end, securing just 47 catches for 682 yards and three touchdowns.

If a skill player is going to snap the drought, there may be no better bet than Edelman. The Pats wideout has been Brady’s go-to-guy for the last five years. Since the 2013-14 season, Edelman has played 12 playoff games and targeted almost 12.5 times per contest. He turns those targets into eight catches and 99.7 yards per game.

Here are the complete odds to win Super Bowl MVP:

Tom Brady (Patriots) Even Jared Goff (Rams) +200
Todd Gurley (Rams) +1600 Sony Michel (Patriots) +1600
