Hogan An Unlikely Hero? Super Bowl Odds And Analysis

Hogans Important role

Chris Hogans role on the offense has increased in recent weeks hauling in 14 receptions in his last three games. Before that he caught just six balls over a six week span. Against Los Angeles he should be lined up across from Aqib Talib or Marcus Peters both pretty good corners, but it’s safe to say Talib has played a lot better this season. Peters has played most of the season with a calf injury and some teams have been able to exploit him. In week nine New Orleans enjoyed their match-up with Marcus Peters covering first team all-pro Michael Thomas. Thomas had a massive game catching 12 balls for 211 receiving yards and one touchdown. Bill Belichick is known for attacking teams weakness and taking away the teams best player. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Hogan gets some action when he is lined up against Peters. If matched up with Talib he will most likely run go routes to open up the short underneath throws.

We all known Tom Brady loves to thrown the check-down, running back James White has had a fantastic season leading New England in receptions catching 87 balls during the regular season. He also leads the team in receptions during their two play off games including a franchise high post season record with 15 receptions against the Los Angeles Chargers. Julian Edelman is right behind him with 16 receptions in the post season and 74 during the regular season. Unfortunately, Hogan will most likely not have a huge game, but his job is extremely valuable to what the Patriots do best. Belichick has said it for years ” just do your job” and that’s what Hogan plans on doing.

Hogan’s Over/under 42.5 Total Receiving Yards

PICK: Hogan Over 42.5 receiving yards

Picking on Goff

Jared Goff has struggled since the start of December, his numbers are just not the same. Some could say those numbers have dropped due to Todd Gurley’s injury and Cooper Kupp’s injury. Whatever it is the Rams offense has looked tremendously better when they can run the ball. Goff has only one 300-yard performance since December while in November alone he had three 300-yard performance including a 400-yard game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Recently throwing the ball the more than 40 times in a game has been a receipt for disaster. In Weeks 14 and 15 against the Bears and the Eagles Goff attempted 44 and 53 passes and both games ended in losses. In those games the Rams could not get the running game going against the Bears Todd Gurley only rushed for 28 yards on 11 carriers to help the team finish with just 52 total rushing yards. Against Philadelphia Gurley again had a bad day, rushing for just 48 yards on 12 carriers to help Los Angeles finish with just 82 total rushing yards. If New England can take away the running game Goff and the Rams will have a long day ahead of them.

Goff’s Pass Attempts Over/under 35.5

PICK: Goff Under 35.5

Two Healthy Teams

It’s the final week of the season and both teams are completely healthy, that we know of. Every player has to be dealing with some type of soreness, but to be this late in the year and not one key player is injured is pretty rare. Some are wondering if Todd Gurley is still dealing with a injury since he only had four carriers last week compared to C.J Anderson who had 16.

If it’s me Gurley should get a good amount of touches, he’s one of the better backs in the league and he was arguably the best back this year until he got hurt. It’s the Super Bowl everything you ever dreamed of and if you can play you will play. You might never get another chance to play in this game so hurt or not you should be ready to go unless of course its a serious injury. Gurley is a huge reason the Rams have the second best offense in the league so if he got you to the big game I would trust him to get you to the promise land.

Gurley’s Over/under total yards 70.5

PICK: Gurley’s Over 70.5
