Week 3 of the NFL preseason is already upon us, which means that we are entering the "dress rehearsal" stage where the starters stay on the field for longer, and regular season game plans are beginning to be implemented. Now that doesn't necessarily mean that we will get an MVP-level shootout between Tom Brady' Pats and Cam Newton's Panthers, but its effects on the game will be felt early and often. Every week of the preseason unfurls a little bit different than the last, and Carolina is set to have the most important week 3 game of any NFL team.
Trends Show Panthers Thrive as Preseason Underdogs, and Now Have Added Sense of Urgency
That sense of urgency is true thanks to star QB - and face of the franchise - Cam Newton, who will be seeing his first real action since undergoing surgery on his shoulder all the way back in January. Though the Panthers certainly aren’t looking to take unnecessary risks with Newton’s recovery, coach Ron Rivera needs to make up for the time lost (OTAs, training camp, etc.) to injury, and informed the media that Cam should play “three or four good possessions.”
