Indianapolis Colts vs. New Orleans Saints

Indianapolis Colts (6-7) vs New Orleans Saints (10-3)

NFL Football: Sunday, December 15th, 2019 at 5:15 PT (Mercedez-Benz Superdome)

Line and Odds: New Orleans -9, Over/Under 46.5

Heading to week 15 Indianapolis season is nearing a close after falling short of expectations. This past week the colts sent veteran kicker Adam Vinatieri to IR closing a possible chapter to his long storied career. Frank Reich can still play spoiler though upsetting the 10-3 Saints who will be coming off a tough loss to the San Francisco 49ers last week at home. We could be in for a scoring affair in the Super Dome though, given that the total has gone over in 4 of the Colts last 6 games.

After a strong start to the season, injuries factored into the inconsistencies on offense leading to their losing streak. Currently the Colts are 1-5 straight up in their last 6 games. Eric Ebron who was a factor in the offense is also currently in the IR so that explains stagnancy when scoring offensively.

For New Orleans last week was a tough pill to swallow but, the bright side is was that they could score aggressively while at home with highly ranked defenses. Despite the loss last week, odds are still in favor for the saints with a 15-5 straight up record in their last 20 games at home. When facing Indianapolis in their last 5 meetings has resulted in the score going over leading to a possible scoring affair.

  • The total has gone OVER in 4 of Indianapolis’ last 6 games.
  • Indianapolis are 2-5 SU in their last 7 games on the road.

New Orleans Saints

  • New Orleans are 9-2 SU in their last 11 games.

  • New Orleans are 15-5 SU in their last 20 games at home.

At this point New Orleans secured their ticket to the playoffs by winning the division on thanksgiving. That doesn’t mean the Saints will call it a season though, as they are playing for better seeding heading to the playoffs. Last week New Orleans suffered a huge setback when the 49ers escaped the superdome with a win dropping them to the 3rd seed behind Green Bay. Saints showed promise with their offensive output against a top ranked 9ers defense, but will continued to be challenged with Indy coming into town.

Jacoby and Co. had a hard fought season, but unfortunately injuries and possible questions under center played a factor into Indianapolis’s under performing season. Frank Reich has given Indy new hope post-Luck, keeping them in games that others would fall short to. The deciding factor is Michael Thomas each and every week as he is playing his best season by far. The mismatch he continues to create against opposing defenders is a code that rarely has been solved.

A bounce back game from Alvin Kamara and Brees continuing his aeriel assault at home feels like the inevitable down in the south. Peyton and Co. send Indy packing with another win in the column.
