NFL Picks New Orleans Saints vs Indianapolis Colts
Welcome to this AFC South Division vs NFC South Division matchup between the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints. The Colts are having an average season. They are a game under .500, third in the AFC South, 2-4 on the road, and they have lost three games in a row. A few weeks ago they had a chance to win the division, but not they will most likely miss the playoffs. Indianapolis is almost even in points scored and points allowed. In their last game, the Colts lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 38-35. It was quite the showdown, but the Colts couldn’t score in the fourth. Quarterback Jacoby Brissett went 19 for 36, for 251 yards, and two touchdowns. The Saints are having an awesome season. They are first in the NFC South, have the second best record in the conference, second in scoring, and 5-2 at home. New Orleans is coming off a crazy 48-46 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. It was a high scoring shootout and one of the best games of the season, with two good quarterbacks going at it. Quarterback Drew Brees went 29 for 40, for 349 yards, and five touchdowns. The Colts will have their hands full as they try to upset the Saints in the Voodoo dome.
The Colts have had a lot of close games this season and two of their last three games have been lost by three points or less. The defense has been good at times and then straight up awful. This team still has something to play for and that is a winning record and a spoiler role in this game. The Colts have been able to beat a few elite teams this season, but not that many. However, they have been competitive in most of their games this season and it just comes down to one more good drive or one less mistake. Brissett will need to match Brees early and be able to get a few more touchdown passes this week. He does have a few targets that he can go to. The Colts defense will try to tune things back in the right direction after giving up a season high 38 points last week. Indianapolis can’t let the game get away from them early and the running game needs to step up.
The Saints need this game if they want to get that first round bye in the NFC playoffs and hopefully have an extra home game in the divisional round. They are coming off a great game and a tough loss to the Niners. The offense was clearly great, but the defense couldn’t get the stops when they needed to. New Orleans needs to work on not taking costly penalties on third down plays. It hurt them last week and you don’t want to be giving teams extra chances with the ball come playoff time. Brees is still on top of his game and he is three career touchdown passes away from tying Peyton Manning for most touchdown passes of all-time. The mark is 539 and Brees has 536. With the Monday Night stage and playoff positioning on the line, Brees will most likely have another four plus touchdown game. He is great at getting the ball off quickly and finding any receiver, no matter what the coverage is. Look for Alvin Kamara to get his legs going again as well.
NFL Scores Indianapolis Colts vs New Orleans Saints
So, who will win this Monday Night Football matchup at the voodoo dome? The Colts have been good at staying in games and just falling short in the end. The Saints know how to play well throughout the game and even when things aren’t going right, Mr. Brees ends up finding a way to get the win late in games. Brees has been good at piling up the yards, touchdowns, and barely having any interceptions. Also, the Saints are definitely the better rushing team and the Colts will have to try and match that area in the offense. However, it will be tough because New Orleans is fifth in rushing defense. If this game comes down to a field goal, Wil Lutz will get it done. The Saints kicker is 29 off 33 in field goals this season. It also doesn’t help the Colts case that they are in the bottom half in the NFL in passing defense and passing offense. The Saints thrive in the air and that might mean a long night for the Colts. Saints win 34-20.
