The Atlanta Falcons head into Hard Rock Stadium to take on the Miami Dolphins in their first preseason game. It will be a chance for both teams to shake off the rust and get back into the groove of being out on the field and competing.
It has been a tough couple weeks for the Miami Dolphins as they have lost their leader to injury. QB Ryan Tannehill reinjured his knee in practice and Miami fears they have lost their QB for the season as his likely option will be surgery. There is still a slight possibility that he could try to rest the knee for six to eight weeks and try to come back for the latter half of the season but that option is unlikely as the same scenario is what cost him this injury. Many believe he should have originally had surgery after the end of last season and this situation could have been avoided. Regardless, the Dolphins have moved on and have signed Jay Cutler to a one year deal for $10 million dollars in hopes that he can save the season from likely disaster. They also have career backup Matt Moore as an option that they will consider.
The Dolphins have Jay Ajayi and Kenyan Drake as their running back options and both will get good playing time this game. Ajayi ended the 2016 season with 260 carries for 1272 yards and 8 touchdowns. Drake had 33 carries for 179 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The wide receiver position may be the most promising for Miami with Landry, Parker, Stills and Sims as their options. Landry will continue to be the leading option because of his freakish talent. he ended last year with 94 receptions, 1136 yards and four touchdowns. Miami is hoping this season to also be a breakout season for Parker who has shown he can handle the workload.
Miami also has most of the defense returning and they are loaded with veterans like Suh, and Wake. Many are nearing the latter half of their careers and it will be interesting to see if they can continue their high level of play.
The Atlanta Falcons will be looking to bounce back after this season after a tough loss in the Superbowl to the Patriots. Led by QB Matt Ryan, they ended the season as the leagues best offense with 38 touchdowns and 6653 total yards.
Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman head the backfield and are a powerful combo for the offense. Freeman just signed a huge contract extension after he ended last season with 1079 yards and 11 touchdowns running and 462 yards and 2 touchdowns receiving. Coleman did well in relief when Freeman spent some time out with 520 yards and 8 touchdowns.
The Falcons receiving core remains a top option as well with Julio Jones, Sanu, and Gabriel. Julio Jones had 1409 yards and 6 touchdowns last season is considered by many the best WR in the NFL. The offense will have no trouble moving the ball this season.
The Falcons Defense ranked in the bottom 10 in yards and points per game. New additions such as Dontari Poe and rookies such as Deion Jones, De’Vondre Campell, Keanu Neal and Brian Poole should really boost their stats in 2017 and if their defense improves enough the Falcon could be a force to reckon with once again.
Julio Jones will be out for this game.
Jay Ajayi will be out for this game.
Ryan Tannehill out indefinitely.

The preseason is a time where the teams find out who has the most potential in their B squads as well as a time for the starters to shake off a little rust. Today’s game will be just that as most of the stars will be out as they don’t want to risk injury so early. The Dolphins still have a solid QB in Matt Moore and a very talented team that can come out and handle business tonight at home. Expect a low scoring game with the home team coming out victorious in this contest.
