NFL Picks Houston Texans vs New England Patriots
Welcome to this Week 13, AFC East Division vs AFC South Division matchup between the New England Patriots and Houston Texans. The Patriots are of course still one of the best teams in the league and have owned the AFC East. New England has the best defense in the league and almost all of their games have been blowout wins. However, the past three games haven’t come easy for them. The production on offense has gone down a bit, but the defense has stayed strong. Last week, the Pats beat the Dallas Cowboys 13-9. The game was close the whole time and quarterback Tom Brady went 17 for 37, for 190 yards, and one touchdown. The Texans are having a great season. They hold a slim slid for first in the AFC South race. Houston has had close games with all types of teams this season, whether that particular opponent is good or bad. The Texans are 4-1 at home and most of those wins were low scoring ones. Last week, the Texans beat the Indianapolis Colts 20-17. It was a shootout type of game and Houston pulled through in the fourth. Quarterback Deshaun Watson went 19 for 30, for 298 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The Pats will try to get their groove back on offense, while the Texans try to get another clutch win at home.
The Patriots will look to get their offense going again. This is the type of game for them to show off that Brady offense. New England is 10-1 all-time against Houston and they usually put up around 27 points or so against them. Also, it helps that the Texans are towards the bottom in a lot of key defensive categories. New England will try to get the rookies involved more this week and Brady should get his usual passing numbers back. The defense will have to limit big plays. Watson is one of the best in the game at throwing the deep pass and the Pats will be tested. They have to play every down hard because you never know when that big play is coming. It helps that the Patriots haven’t given up much on third down plays. Now with the running game, look for that production to go up in the second half, as New England will try to control the clock, and keep the Texans offense off the field.
The Texans will try to run the ball and run the ball a lot against the Patriots. It worked for the Ravens in their easy win against the Pats and now Houston will try to duplicate that effort. If things don’t work out at times in the running game, then they have quarterback in Watson, who can deliver a big play at anytime. Plus, Watson is great at scrambling around when he needs to. On defense, Houston has held their own against a fair amount of teams and they will look to stay in the game again. The Texans have had some awesome all around performances at home and they have been good at getting some big, fourth quarter plays. If it comes down to a late touchdown in the fourth quarter, the Texans can get it done. The Patriots haven’t had a fourth quarter touchdown in well over a month. Look for a combination of early runs, Watson doing his thing from time to time, and the defense doing just enough.
