New England Patriots vs Jacksonville Jaguars 9-16-18 Free NFL Picks, Predictions, and Odds

In a rematch of the 2018 AFC Championship Game, the New England Patriots head to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in week two of the NFL season. Both teams will be hungry to beat each other. This could ultimately be the two teams that meet each other in this years AFC championship game. Will the Jaguars dethrone Tom Brady?

A Look at the Teams

The New England Patriots fell short against the Eagles in the Super Bowl, but with Tom Brady back for another year, the Patriots look destined to return to that stage. Brady looked solid in their week one win against Houston, passing for 277 yards and three touchdowns. Tight End Rob Gronkowski is healthy after one game, where he hauled in seven passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. A new defensive coordinator doesn’t mean anything different in Foxborough as they look like they have the potential to be an even better defense. A major loss for the Patriots is running back Jeremy Hill who went down with a knee injury and will be out for the rest of the season. Rookie running back Sony Michel is questionable so it looks like Rex Burkhead and James White will be the ball carrier going forward. New England added receivers Bennie Fowler and Corey Coleman to the roster this week, so it looks like Brady will have more options in the ever-changing receiving core in New England. The Patriots will need a stellar performance if they want to come out of Jacksonville at 2-0.

The Jacksonville Jaguars held off the New York Giants on the road in week one, and now they face yet another major NFL program, as they host the Patriots. The Jags fell short of the Super Bowl last season losing in Foxborough. This matchup, however, is in Jacksonville. Blake Bortles was pretty average in game one passing for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The availability of star running back Leonard Fournette could be a major issue come Sunday, as he tweaked his hamstring in the week one win. Can Jalen Ramsey back up all the talk he has said in the offseason? The star Cornerback from Florida State has bosted a lot. Now can he back it up? The defense could be among one of the best in the league. Top Wide Reciever Allen Robinson is gone, so who will step up in the wide receiver group for Jacksonville?  Is it Donte Moncrief, Dede Westbrook, or Keelan Cole, are they the guys? The Linebackers look among some of the best in the NFL. Myles Jack and Telvin Smith are a deadly pair. Can Jacksonville knock off Tom Brady and the New England Patriots? Will Jacksonville be a new contender for this year’s Super Bowl?

This game could be full of defense, much like last season’s AFC Championship game came down to an interception by New England to seal the deal, this matchup could come down to a defensive play to win the game. I will give credit to Jalen Ramsey for speaking his mind and opinion, but I disagree with what he has said about Rob Gronkowski specifically. You can talk the talk Jalen but, you haven’t proven you can walk the walk. So in this game, I think it will be Under 45. This game will be a dogfight and the spread sums that up nicely. It is one of those games that you hope to see again in the postseason. Yeah, Jacksonville’s defense is scary, but not having Leonard Fournette could be even scarier. I’m gonna go with Tom Terrific and the New England Patriots here. Brady will find a way to get a win in Jacksonville.
