NFL Picks Philadelphia Eagles vs New York Jets

Welcome to this Week 5, AFC East Division vs NFC East Division matchup between the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles. The Jets have had a rough start to their season. In Week 1, they blew a 16-3 fourth quarter lead to the Buffalo Bills and lost the game 17-16. From there, they were blown out by the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots. In that game against the Pats, quarterback Luke Falk went 12 for 22, for 98 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. The Eagles have been in a lot of close games so far and the result is a .500 record. Philly couldn’t pick up wins against teams trying to find themselves like the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions, but they got their most impressive win last week against the Green Bay Packers. Quarterback Carson Wentz went 16 for 27, for 160 yards, and three touchdowns. The Jets will try not to get blown out for a third straight game and the Eagles will try to fly high with an easy win.

The Jets defensive front has been bad this season and it has shown in their last two games. They haven’t pressured the quarterbacks enough and the secondary is full of holes. This team has only scored 33 points this season and have fallen behind early in games. They just don’t seem to have the energy to keep pace with most teams at the moment. Le’Veon Bell was a big pickup for this team, but he’s running behind an awful offensive line and that’s why he is just averaging 2.9 yards per carry. Quarterback Sam Darnold won’t play again this week. Falk hasn’t thrown a touchdown yet and just has one interception to show on his stat line. He can be very efficient with his throws, but right now, he is struggling to finish any drive with a score. One or two receivers need to get into the mix or at least have some type of breakout play. New York’s defense will try to slow things down as much as they can and hopefully something can happen from nothing from the Jets.

The Eagles win over the Packers came at the right time for them. It was a confidence boosting win and now they have a chance to get their first commanding win of the season against the struggling Jets. The Eagles had success running the ball last week and they will throw that into the mix against the Jets this week. The offensive line will have an easier time with New York and running back Jordan Howard should rush for over 100 yards, and get some more touchdowns. Carson Wentz has only had one bad game this season and usually throws two to three touchdown passes a game. It seems like his sharpness is getting better as the season goes on. For them to have a solid win, they will need to pass rush better. They have had a lot of close games this season and they need to stop letting teams comeback so easily. Also, look for the Eagles to actually control a game. They have had bad first halfs and had to make up for it in the second half.

Cover The Spread 365

So, who will win this east coast matchup? The Eagles are the better team, but they haven’t showed that true dominance yet. A commanding win may happen in this game because of what they did on the road at Green Bay. It was a hard fought game for the Eagles and the Jets are a rested team because they had a bye week last week. Philly has one of the best run defenses in the league and New York has barely done anything with rushing the ball. Even with a weapon like Bell, the run game has not shown up at all for them. The Jets will have to pass more and Falk has yet to reach to the endzone this season. He will get some decent passes off, but most of the time, they will have short drives. Luckily for New York, Philly isn’t that great at defending the pass. Summing it all up, the Eagles have more firepower and confidence to control this game from the start and do a decent enough job on defending that they will cover the spread. Eagles win 28-10.

Pick: Philadelphia Eagles -14
