NFL Draft 2018: Five Surprises That Will Happen
Nothing in life is guaranteed. Thursday NFL’s Draft will finally reveal who NFL’s teams are taking. There will be something things that happen in the first round that we expect; however, history shows us to expect the unexpected, here are the top five surprises that will happen in the first round of the NFL Draft.
A top prospect will fall down the board
Every year this happens, some top prospect will stay in the green a little bit longer than they expected. There will be someone sitting at home, or at a watch party wondering why their name has not been called yet. There have been plenty of victims of the draft day slide. Jonathan Allen, Geno Smith, Aaron Rogers and Randy Moss, to name a few fell in their respective drafts. Depends on how the draft goes, some players slide because of needs at other positions, other may slide because of character or injury concerns.
Six Quarterbacks will be drafted in the first round tying the 1983 Draft Class
The NFL is a quarterback driven league and if you don’t have one, you will be picking in the top of the draft every year. (Ask the Cleveland Browns) All these quarterbacks have issues from turnovers, to behavior issues, to accuracy concerns but none of that will matter. Six quarterbacks: Josh Rosen, Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Lamar Jackson and the shocker Mason Rudolph, will tie the 1983 class for the most quarterbacks taken in the first round in NFL history. The question to me is not if they will be taken, it is where they will be taken? 12 NFL teams could use a quarterback.
Saquon Barkley will slide……a little bit
Saquon Barkley is one of the best running back prospects to come along in a very long time. Barkley is my top-rated prospect coming into this draft; however, he could slide not because of injury or character issues but there is going to be a run on quarterbacks and I expect that run to start very early. In most mock draft’s, three of the four top picks are quarterbacks. Many NFL teams know they could get a king’s ransom from teams looking to trade up in the first round. I do not see Barkley sliding past five.
Somebody will be a first round pick that no one had in any mock draft
This will happen. There is going to be some NFL team who will take a player in the first round, who no one had a first round grade on their board. The player who they had on their board, will be gone and they will reach for a player.
Trades, Trades and Trades
I need a quarterback, I need to trade back and stockpile more picks, I want this certain player. The 2018 NFL draft will be like the old game show Let’s Make a Deal. There be at least 12 trades in the first round of the NFL Draft, there will be so much wheeling and dealing that some players will putting on the wrong hat.
