The Cincinnati Bengals are coming off a forgetful 6-9-1 season which they missed the playoffs, adding to their woeful franchise who has still not won a postseason game since 1990. The Bengals season after season have one of the more talented rosters in the NFL, and most folks in Cincinnati are losing patience with their lack of postseason success. A lot of pressure is mounting on Marvin Lewis and others to get the job done.

  • Key Player Losses: RB Rex Burkhead- New England, DT Domata Peko- Denver, LB Rey Maualuga- FA, K Mike Nugent- FA
  • Key Player Additions: OL Andre Smith, LB Kevin Minter
  • Key Draft Additions: WR John Ross (1st rd), RB Joe Mixon (2nd rd), LB Jordan Willis (3rd rd), OLB Carl Lawson (4th rd), WR Josh Malone (4th rd), DT Ryan Glasgow (4th rd)

Outlook: The Cincinnati Bengals had a top-10 defense last season in points allowed and return a bulk of those players. The Bengals offense is equipped many weapons with QB Andy Dalton, RB Jeremy Hill, and WR AJ Green. The offense can be effective and even more explosive with draftees WR John Ross and RB Joe Mixon being thrown into the mix. The roster is full of talent and seems ready to make noise and even contend for a title.

Problem is that the Bengals must claim the top spot in the AFC North and overcome the one-and-done issues in the playoffs. The Bengals seem to always underachieve time and time again. With mounted pressure coming on Marvin Lewis I expect the Bengals to crack as opposed to excel this season. Pittsburgh Steelers already look like the top dog in the AFC North and I just don’t see the Bengals being physical or quick enough of a team to beat them. You can always bank on two wins from the Cleveland Browns, but when almost every other team in the division does the same its void of any merit. At Cover The Spread 365 we feel very confident that they will split the home and away against the Baltimore Ravens this season. With three difficult games to start the 2017 NFL season we expect the Bengals to be playing catch up right from the get go. The Bengals have historically been a team that if they fall behind early in a game you can almost count it as a loss, as they were 3-15 when trailing by more than a touchdown the last three seasons. All in all, we don’t see the Bengals coming close to double digit wins this year and have them more in line with 7 to 8 wins on the NFL season.
