NFL FUTURE WIN TOTALS OVER/UNDER DALLAS COWBOYS

Last year one the major surprises in the NFL was the Dallas Cowboys. When Tony Romo went down at the beginning of the season, everyone wrote the Cowboys out of Championship and Playoff contention. Then, something truly special happened. Two rookies, Ezekiel Elliot and Dak Prescott, led the Cowboys to a 13-3 regular season. They helped the Cowboys claim the number 1 seed in the NFC. In the playoffs, the Cowboys came up short to a veteran Green Bay Packers team and finished with an impressive 13-4 record. Although most of their players are returning, some key losses on defense have the Cowboys predicted at 9.5 wins this season. The most important thing for the Cowboys to work on this season is their defense and some of their new signings could help with that.

DALLAS COWBOYS 9.5 WINS OVER/UNDER: OVER

The Cowboys had a stellar season tallying up 13 wins. One main reason why they were so successful last season was the maturity and poise of rookie quarterback Dak Prescott. Prescott had an amazing rookie campaign and tied Ben Roethlisberger for most wins by a rookie quarterback in a single season. He also finished the season with a 104.9 passer rating which was the best passer rating ever posted by a rookie. Prescott was not the only rookie who had a great first season with the Cowboys. Running back, Ezekiel Elliot, also had a monster season and led the league in rushing with 1,631 yards. He also led the league in rushing touchdowns with 15. Elliot came up 178 yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson’s rookie record for rushing. If he wasn’t rested the last game against the Eagles, he might have broken that record. The good news for the Cowboys is these two players will be around for a long time.

Expect the Cowboys offense to be good once again. Last season, they ranked 5th in total offense, 2nd in rushing, and 4th in downs. The Cowboys offensive superstars, Prescott, Bryant, Elliot, Williams, Whiton, and Beasley are all coming back. With the plethora of good wide receivers and a Hall of Fame tight end, I think the passing game will be dynamic once again. The Cowboys dominate offensive line will also be returning which is a very good sign for the running game. I expect another good season from Elliot with over 1,000 yards. With all of this expect the Cowboys to light up the scoreboard this season again.

The main concern for the Cowboys this season is going to be their defense. Last year, the Cowboys had some good defensive stats. They ranked 1st in rushing defense, 3rd in fumbles forced, and 15th in total defense. The negative was they ranked 25th in passing defense, 25th in receiving defense, and 27th in sacks. The losses of defensive stars such as Barry Church, J.J. Wilcox, and Brandon Carr could take a huge toll on the team’s defensive efficiency. The Cowboys hope the two DBs they signed, Robert Blanton and Nolan Carroll, can step up and help the Cowboys defense that has struggled covering the passing game. They also hope rookie Taco Charlton will have an immediate impact up front when he starts.

I expect the Cowboys to win double-digit games this year. My estimate they will finish the regular season 10-6 or 11-5. I think the jump in strength of schedule from 27th to 10th will give the Cowboys a few more losses than the season before. The offensive pieces are all there and I believe the key additions on defense will step up and do their job.
