NFL Future Win Totals Over/Under Los Angeles Chargers

With the 2017 NFL season rapidly approaching many bettors are already looking at the prop bets available for the season. Oddsmakers have been preparing for the influx of wagers by releasing win totals two months before the first game is to be played on the 7th of September. The Los Angeles Chargers are just one of the teams that people have an eye on after two disappointing sub .500 seasons in a row. They also have not made the playoffs since the 2013 season but with a move to Los Angeles and the hiring of a new coach may come refreshed optimism.

Los Angeles Chargers 7.5 Wins Over/Under: Over

The Chargers head into the season with a totally new look after a move to Los Angeles. Anthony Lynn takes the helm as the team’s new head coach. The Chargers have also hit the free agent market hard the last two seasons. Most importantly they have many players returning from injuries to complete their roster. They are going to need every single component to perform if they are to have a successful 2017 campaign.

Los Angeles has the third hardest strength of schedule going forward this season. They are only one of two teams to have more than eight games scheduled versus opponents who had ten or more victories in the prior season. One reason is that they must play AFC West rivals Kansas City and Oakland Raiders twice. The AFC West plays the NFC East as well this season so that means matching up versus the Giants and Cowboys will also be a tough task. Of the eight teams with the hardest strength of schedules in 2016 only two managed to make the playoffs. This could be a troubling stat for Los Angeles since they haven’t made it past the regular season since 2013 but this year will be different.

Entering his 14th season Charger’s QB Phillip Rivers is poised to have a terrific year. Last year Rivers threw the sixth most touchdowns on deep balls with ten and that number is sure to rise this season with a stellar cast at wide receiver. Tyrell Williams emerged as the teams best WR’s last season after Keenan Allen succumbed to injury. Dontrelle Inman was also solid and both receivers were in the top 33 in their position. High profile signing Travis Benjamin also battled with injury in 2016 but along with Allen is primed for a comeback this season. Add to that the potential of new rookie Mike Williams and the Chargers have a WR cast that can rival just about any defense thrown their way.

Under Gus Bradley’s 43 defense the Chargers will have many new options. The duo of defensive rookie of the year Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram will be an unstoppable force on the pass rush out of the three point stance. Tackle Russell Okung has signed a monster deal and with that will come high expectations. The Chargers have also added quite a few new names to their DB core in free agency. Bradley has stated that 2015 3rd round pick Craig Mager will have an increased role in the defense but after a disappointing season in 2016 that had him end on the injured reserve Mager will have his work cut out for him in training camp with all of the increased competition. Overall the defense is much improved just in time for a grueling season with so many games versus the leagues best teams.

After three disappointing seasons in a row the Chargers are in a prefect position to surprise the world and have a fantastic 2017 NFL season. Yes their strength of schedule is tough and they will have their work cut out for them but the Chargers have all the tools as well as a new coach and fan base to lead them to a winning season. They will definitely win eight or more games and will surprise Vegas and the betting community with their high powered offense. Take the over 7.5 games and you will not regret it.
