NFL Futures: Where Will Antonio Brown Play in 2019?

NFL Futures Antonio Brown Betting Odds

Whether he meant to or not, Pittsburgh Steelers star wide receiver Antonio Brown may have talked his way out of town. The disgruntled wideout was reportedly perturbed over the franchise naming fellow receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster the team MVP and also sat out a crucial week 17 game against the rival Bengals. Pittsburgh ultimately missed the playoffs even after winning that game without Brown, but his disappearing act left coaches and teammates scratching their heads. Brown would later express his disdain with the franchise and suggested he wanted to be traded.

The writing on the wall reveals the franchise might be open to that notion, especially with head coach Mike Tomlin saying Brown abandoned the team during their “darkest hour”. Cue a Gary Oldman joke here, am I right? The Steelers do appear genuinely miffed by Brown’s actions and for good reason. Especially after watching stud rusher Le’Veon Bell quit on the team due to a contract dispute, the odds are decent that the franchise won’t let this slide.

Antonio Brown Betting Odds

he Steelers have a star in the making in Smith-Schuster, while James Washington could be ready to replace Brown as early as 2019.Does that mean the Antonio Brown trade rumors will lead to a big move? Nothing is set in stone, but the top NFL betting websites sure aren’t wasting time pondering the possibilities. Bovada is probably the best spot to go to bet on where Antonio Brown will play in 2019. Check out their Antonio Brown odds below:

Pittsburgh Steelers (-500)

San Francisco 49ers (+275)

Indianapolis Colts (+800)

New York Jets (+800)

Oakland Raiders (+1100)

Now here’s a quick breakdown of every team on Bovada’s list:

Pittsburgh Steelers (-500)

The popular belief here is that Antonio Brown will not be returning to the Steelers in 2019. Although this appears to be a move that both parties would like to make happen as Pittsburgh has gone on to say they will listen to trade offers for their star wide receiver, the fact is that there will be a massive cap penalty as Brown will cost the Steelers $21 million in dead money.

With that said, one thing to note for the Steelers is that with Le’Veon Bell sitting out the entire 2018 regular season, the Steelers are due about $16 million that they can use. Now take that into account and trading your upset star receiver would only cost about $5 million in the end. Plus the assets the Steelers would receive in return, of course.

San Francisco 49ers (+275)

Brown landing in San Francisco this upcoming offseason began to really gain traction after the social media world found out that Brown followed the 49ers on both Instagram and Twitter. Does this mean Brown wants to go play for the 49ers? Possibly.

It is very easy to get caught up into the social media interactions players have with other players and teams, and yes sometimes it’s a big deal but many times it is often not. It is likely that Brown decided to follow the Niners on Instagram and Twitter to simply have an easy method to see what buzz is around their front office and locker room, after all, the NFL coaching carousel is in full swing. If I’m Antonio Brown, I’d follow every team’s social media accounts that I’m interested in.

This destination makes sense for both sides, the 49ers are young contenders with ample cap flexibility to afford the hit on Brown’s contract and who can also use the veteran leadership that comes with a 30 year old, pro bowl receiver. The 49ers are an enticing location for free agents all around to look into. Jimmy Garoppolo, their franchise quarterback would greatly benefit from the acquisition of a top talent at wide receiver with impeccable route running and quickness. Let’s not forget the injury bug that stripped Garoppolo and offseason addition at running back Jerick McKinnon from playing a full season. The addition of Brown to this offense has to have fans drooling and I’m sure this has at least crossed Brown’s mind.

Indianapolis Colts (+800)

The odds in the Antonio Brown sweepstakes skyrocket from here and although oddsmakers don’t see this happening, I personally, see this is a viable landing spot for Brown directly after the 49ers. The Colts single season transformation is simply jaw dropping. This is an offensive line that went from allowing the most sacks last season to allowing the least sacks this year and it shows. Andrew Luck is finally healthy and he is also at the top of the game.

Without Brown, the Colts are a legitimate contender and again who wouldn’t love to add a superstar talent to their offense. Back to social media, Le’Veon Bell has taken notice at what the Colts have accomplished and he appears to like it, and he will become a free agent. For the dreamers, could we see Bell sign to the Colts after a blockbuster trade sending Brown to Indiana? Anything is possible in sports but pulling off both of these moves would take a lot. Would the Colts give up a bunch of future assets for Brown while luring Bell to sign? Maybe, but one thing to note is that neither player is getting any younger.

New York Jets (+800)

The Jets, as any other team in the NFL would love and thrive off the addition of Antonio Brown, considering their number one target is Robby Anderson. Anderson is talented and gifted with hard to catch speed, but he’s not a number one receiver in my book. With a young, hopeful franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold, this is an avenue the Jets should at least wander down, despite the odds not being in their favor.

The Jets are hardly Super Bowl contenders, partly because getting out of their AFC East division is enough of a challenge. Maybe they could wow Bell in free agency and make this destination more appealing. Without a head coach, a struggling team in a relatively tough division doesn’t appear to be at the top of Brown’s list.

Oakland Raiders (+1100)

Oakland, a location which isn’t getting as much buzz as I would imagine. Jon Gruden is fully remaking this team to whatever plan he has in mind by trading away Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper away in the same season but acquiring a 1st round pick in return and more for each. A fact to note is that the Raiders hired former NFL Draft Analyst Mike Mayock as their new GM. This moved was not talked about much and I’m utterly confused as to why not considering the insight Mayock has on the draft candidates.

The Raiders going to get an aging wide receiver is not far fetched as they turned around last season and brought on former Packers receiver Jordy Nelson. The Raiders can fill a gap at wide receiver now that Cooper is gone with Brown but there have been rumors about Carr’s future in Oakland and unfortunately these rumors may not be settled before Brown finds a new home. It will be interesting to see what direction the Raiders go in throughout this off season but it is hard to imagine Antonio Brown will be part of it.
