Free ESPN NFL Picks Kansas City Chiefs vs. Indianapolis Colts

The 11-6 Indianapolis Colts and 12-4 Kansas City Chiefs kickoff the Divisional Round weekend for the 2018 season. The Colts have won 10 of their last 11 games, and are potentially the hottest team in the NFL right now. While the Chiefs lost only four games in the regular season, the four teams they lost to were all playoff contenders: the LA Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, LA Rams, and New England Patriots. Quarterback Andrew Luck is expected to win Comeback Player of the Year and Patrick Mahomes is heavily favored to win the AP MVP award with 50 touchdowns to 12 interceptions.

ESPN NFL Scores Indianapolis Colts vs. Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs have not won a divisional round playoff game since the 1993 season. However, their past has no bearing on this upcoming game against the Colts. Mahomes is the first quarterback in the Chiefs’ franchise history to throw 50 touchdown passes in the regular season. The Chiefs finished the regular season with their offensive line ranked 13th, according to Pro Football Focus, while the Colts ended up ranking as the league’s 3rd best offensive line. Although football analysts are expecting the Chiefs to win this game based on their number one ranked scoring offense with 35.3 points per game, the defense has been struggling all season long. The Colts have the 6th ranked scoring offense and the 10th ranked scoring defense. The scoring defense statistic matters more to a certain extent based on the Chiefs’ below average ranking at 24th. Something else to consider is that Andrew Luck has more playoff experience with his 4-3 (.571) record. This will be Mahomes’ first playoff game starting.

Pick: Indianapolis Colts -3.5

Dallas Cowboys (11-6) vs. Los Angeles Rams (12-4)

Over/Under Total: 49.5

Spread: LA Rams -7

Free ESPN NFL Picks Los Angeles Rams vs. Dallas Cowboys

The 11-6 Dallas Cowboys will be attempting to earn their first divisional round playoff win since the 1995 playoffs, while the 12-4 LA Rams are searching for their first divisional round win since the 2001 playoffs. The Cowboys are entering this game with the league’s 22nd ranked scoring offense with 21.4 points per game. Throughout the 2018 regular season, the achilles’ heel for Dallas has been their weak passing game. Additionally, the 12-4 Rams wrapped up their regular season with a scoring offense ranked 2nd with 32.9 points per game.

ESPN NFL Scores Dallas Cowboys vs. Los Angeles Rams

The Dallas Cowboys have a top 5 defense this season. They are ranked 13th against the pass, 5th against the rush, and have the 6th ranked scoring defense. However, the defense has been inconsistent throughout the regular season. The team played fantastic against the Saints’ offense in Arlington, but not so much against the Colts’ top 5 scoring offense on the road. While the Rams have the 2nd ranked scoring offense in the league, their pass and rush defense has been exposed by multiple teams. The Rams have the 14th ranked passing defense, 23rd ranked rushing defense, and possess the 20th ranked scoring defense. The Rams are expecting the Cowboys to run the ball a lot with the league’s number one rusher statistically, Ezekiel Elliott. The LA Rams will do just enough to outscore the Cowboys.

Pick: Los Angeles Rams -3.5

Los Angeles Chargers (13-4) vs. New England Patriots (11-5)

Over/Under Total: 47.5

Spread: Patriots -4

Free ESPN NFL Picks New England Patriots vs. Los Angeles Chargers

The 13-4 Los Angeles Chargers with Philip Rivers are once again playing Tom Brady and the 11-5 New England Patriots. The Chargers and Patriots have complete teams both offensively and defensively. The Bolts finished their regular season ranked 7th for scoring offense with 26.5 points per game. The Patriots completed their regular season ranked 4th for scoring offense with 27.2 points scored per game. Quarterback Tom Brady is 7-0 against Chargers’ teams with Philip Rivers in his NFL career. Once again, past success has no bearing on the outcome of this game, though.

ESPN NFL Scores Los Angeles Chargers vs. New England Patriots

The Chargers are ranked 8th in scoring defense, while the Patriots finished the 2018 regular season ranked 7th. The Bolts are ranked 9th in rush defense and 9th against the pass. Furthermore, the Patriots are ranked 11th against the rush and 22nd against the pass. According to Pro Football Focus, the Patriots have the 2nd best secondary in the league. PFF ranks the Chargers as having the 3rd best secondary. For another point to consider, the Patriots were ranked 4th for offensive line protection, whereas the Chargers were ranked 30th, according to PFF. The Bolts will likely keep this game close, but picking the Patriots to win at home in the divisional round is still a fair bet.

Pick: Patriots -6

Philadelphia Eagles (10-7) vs. New Orleans Saints (13-3)

January 13, 2019 4:40 pm ET (Mercedes-Benz Superdome)

Over/Under Total: 51.5

Spread: Saints -8

Free ESPN NFL Picks New Orleans Saints vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The 2018 defending super bowl champions Eagles are coming off a surprising wild card win over the 12-4 Chicago Bears. Statistically on defense, these two teams match up quite well. The Eagles have the 30th ranked passing defense, 7th ranked rushing defense, and the 12th ranked scoring defense. The Saints have the 29th ranked pass defense, 2nd ranked rushing defense, and the 14th ranked scoring defense. Although the Saints pounded the Eagles 48-7 in their regular season match-up, Nick Foles wasn’t quarterbacking. Similar to last week’s game against the Bears, the wild card factor in this rematch game is Nick Foles. The Eagles play like a different team with St. Nick.

The Saints are entering this divisional round playoff game ranked 3rd in scoring offense with 31.5 points scored per game, while the Eagles are ranked 18th in scoring offense with 22.5 points per game scored on average. In terms of offensive line protection, the Eagles have the better offensive line. Philadelphia was ranked 5th best in the league at the end of the 2018 regular season, while New Orleans finished the regular season ranked 8th, according to Pro Football Focus. If Nick Foles is well-protected throughout all four quarters of the game, football enthusiasts may be looking at another potential upset. All in all, the Saints had a lot of time to prepare for this match-up. Drew Brees and the Saints have the best opportunity this season to win another super bowl for one more logical reason. All three of their post-season games, if they continue to win, will be played in a dome.

Pick: Saints -6
