NFL Future Win Totals Over/Under: New England Patriots
The Patriots are almost always at the top of the projected wins column in the offseason, and they almost always live up to expectations. During the Bill Belichick era the team has had a win tally in the single digits just twice, with the most recent of those occurring during a nine-win campaign back in 2002. It’s remarkable, especially considering superstar quarterback Tomorrow Brady missed the entire 2008 campaign with a knee injury and Belichick still coached his squad to 10 wins.
New England Patriots Wins 12.5 Over/Under: OVER
Vegas was wise to expect consistency from this franchise and set its 2017’s over/under as the highest in the league by a two-game margin. The only other teams to even breach 10 are the Pittsburgh Steelers (10.5), Green Bay Packers (10) and Oakland Raiders (10). It sounds absurd, but 12.5 may even be a bit low considering what the Patriots managed to accomplish during the offseason.
New England’s front office hardly had time to finish celebrating the most impressive Super Bowl comeback of all time before diving into one of the most enviable offseason’s in recent memory. The Patriots traded with the Saints for a top 15 wide receiver, bringing in Brandin Cooks from New Orleans to give Brady the don a legitimate deep threat he has been missing since the hay days with Randy Moss. They infiltrated the AFC East rival Buffalo Bills, signing Stephon Gilmore to beef up the secondary and also snagged the very versatile back Mike Gillislee to their backfield. The Patriots running back core also got a remodeling upgrade with the addition of Rex Burkhead, who last played for the Bengals, and we know how good the Patriots are in stealing running backs from the Bengals, as in Corey Dillon, which played out very well in their favor.
The NFL teams better be on their toes, as all these rash of moves seems to be that New England Patriots are going all-in to win as much as possible before Brady’s window closes, even though the hall of famer claims he has four or five years left. That proves to be false because the Patriots managed to avoid giving up backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The backup has performed very well during his limited playing times and opportunities, it allows the team to survive an unexpected injury from Brady.
