The New York Giants head to the City of Brotherly Love to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in an NFC East showdown. The Giants look to get revenge after a 34-13 shellacking to Philadelphia at Metlife Stadium in Week 6. New York looks to build a winning streak after taking down Tampa Bay, while the Eagles try to to get back in the win column after falling to New Orleans.

New York Giants

When the New York Giants signed Nate Solder to anchor the offensive line, then drafted Saquon Barkley seconded overall, fans assumed that the offense would be great. How could it not? They have an offensive guru in Pat Shurmur calling the shots. Eli Manning’s still at the helm. Odell Beckham and Sterling Shepard form a formidable receiving tandem.

Well, that hasn’t come into fruition. The Giants offense sits 23rd in total yards per game at 346. Their 21.5 points per game average puts them at 22nd. Manning’s touchdown totals are way down, having thrown just 13 on the season, with 3 of them coming in Week 10 against San Francisco. Barkley continues to build his case for Rookie of the Year with 728 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Defensively, New York has some serious work to do to get back into the playoff discussion. The defense has looked porous at times, giving up the 6th most yards in the league at 381 per game. Their 26.3 points against average rates 7th most. The Giants don’t get to the quarterback, posting just 11 sacks on the season. This is a far cry from the days when they won their Super Bowl titles with Michael Strahan, Justin Tuck, Jason Pierre-Paul, and the likes.

Philadelphia Eagles

What is going on with the Philadelphia Eagles? Last season they won 13 games, lost a young star in Carson Wentz, among many other key players, and beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Now they sit two games under .500 and remain on the outside looking in when talking about the division.

The offense, pun only partially intended, hasn’t taken flight in 2018. The Eagles are averaging just 355 yards per game on the season, which puts them at 18th in the league. Their average 20.5 points per game is the 7th lowest in the NFL. To be fair, Wentz did miss the first three weeks of the season while recovering from the knee injury he took late in 2017. However, considering what Philadelphia was able to do on offense with Nick Foles under center, that can’t be looked at as a legitimate excuse.

The defense has struggled at times as well. Philadelphia, on average, gives up the 10th most yards per games at 377.9. Of course, a great defense can’t always be measured in how many yards they allow in a game. The better metric would be points allowed, and the Eagles fall way down the list in that. They have surrendered an average of 23.1 points per game. The Eagles need to start forcing more turnovers if they want to turn their season around. They are currently tied for 29th in the league in interceptions with 4. That’s just not going to get it done.

Cover the Spread 365 Betting Trends

The New York Giants rarely fail to cover the spread two weeks in a row. When they fail to cover one week, New York has taken each of the last four. However, that doesn’t always translate when they win their previous game straight up. The Giants have dropped six of their last seven against the spread, and ride into this one with a seven-game winless streak when winning their previous game straight up. With this being a road game, look for New York to hang tough. They’ve covered in each of their last four road games.

I don’t see why anyone would take the Eagles against the spread. They’ve dropped seven of their last nine against the spread overall, including five of their last six against conference opponents. The fact that they are playing at home, oddly enough, does not help them. The Eagles have failed to cover in each of their last four games at Lincoln Financial. But surely, the fact that they play a New York Giants that is 3-7 should help them, right? Well, that’s not exactly the case. Philadelphia has fallen to the spread in each of their last four games against teams with losing records.

Look, I like the Eagles, I really do. The roster tells me that they will have long-term success. That being said, I have to take the Giants. New York won’t be going to the playoffs. They would need to win every single game from here on out to do that, and I just don’t see that happening. Interdivision games are going to be their Super Bowl the rest of the way. That, along with the fact that they have some momentum on their side, tells me that will keep this close. With the four-point spread, the Giants go over the top.
