NFL Picks New Orleans Saints vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Welcome to this Week 5, NFC South Division showdown between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New Orleans Saints. The Buccaneers have had an interesting season so far. In Week 1, they turned the ball over five times and were very sloppy in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers. From there, they had a solid win against the Carolina Panthers and then they blew 28-10 lead to the New York Giants, and lost that game. Last week, this team was able to win a shootout type of game against the Los Angeles Rams. Quarterback Jameis Winston went 28 for 41, for 385 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. The Saints have had to deal with not having Drew Brees for most of the games this season and so far, they are still playing good football. The first two weeks, the Saints had a close win against the Houston Texans and then got blown out by the Rams. From there, they bounced back with wins against the tough Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys. Last week, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater went 23 for 30, for 193 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. Both these teams are rising with confidence and this should be a fun game.

The Buccaneers have shown some defensive improvement and have been great at forcing opponents to make mistakes. This defense already has eleven sacks on the season and nine of them are by Shaquil Barrett. Even though this team has been great at bringing a lot pressure on the quarterback, the secondary still needs a lot of work. Last season, this defense finished last in a lot of passing categories and it has showed in three of the four games this season. Now Winston finally had a breakout game against the Rams. He usually shows some signs of greatness and then it goes away fast. He is on the rise, as he has four plus touchdown passes in back to back weeks. Winston will try to shine again and the defense will try to stop the Saints running game.

The Saints have found a way to win without Brees. It’s amazing that the Saints won last week without scoring a touchdown. It was the first time since 1998 that New Orleans won a game without reaching the end zone. This team will need to get their scoring going this week against a confident Tampa Bay team that scored 55 on the great Rams. Luckily, the Bucs secondary is still full of holes and that means Bridgewater can have a great game. Of course, their kicker Wil Lutz will probably get some more field goals in this game because that has been part of the Saints game plan lately. This team has also been playing perfect without Brees and really not making any dumb mistakes with the ball and penalties. However, this team is definitely lacking with the offensive production. Bridgewater will need to be confident at making more big passes and he will probably target Michael Thomas for most of those big plays. Also, keep the defense solid and pressure Winston, because the Bucs won’t make it easy for Bridgewater.

So, who will win this NFC South Division showdown? Winston finally had a good game this season and it opened some eyes because it was against the Rams. The last two weeks, he has shown that he knows how to finish some great drives with touchdowns. He will be tested this week because the Saints have an awesome pass rush, but the Bucs have a good pass rush as well. Tampa Bay will be ready to stop running back Alvin Kamara, but at times, Kamara will get a big run for his team. Bridgewater has been great with barely having any incomplete passes and hardly any turnovers. He is good at getting any pass off, no matter what the defense is looking like. This will be another interesting game for the Saints, with a mix of field goals, some touchdowns, and key defensive stops. Saints win 26-17.
