The San Jose Sharks enter Game 3 having taken both road at the Honda Center in Anaheim and need to only hold home ice by winning their next two games to advance to the second round. The Sharks have scored three goals in each of the last two games. The Sharks have established a defensive mindset with Martin Jones leading the way in net. The Sharks have statistically been one of the best teams in hockey with the penalty kill percentage being good enough for second in the league. The Sharks will hope to be leading after two periods as they have been one of the top teams in the league sitting at 30-1-2 on the year after leading at the second period buzzer.
The Anaheim Ducks are in desperate need of a win to get something positive in this series.
One of the few encouraging signs of the first two games for the Ducks is that they haven’t lacked physicality delivering 41 hits while getting shutout in Game 1. The Ducks also need to learn to control their play as they have also won the battle for penalty minutes in the playoffs as well. The Ducks will need to stay disciplined and keep San Jose away from the power play if they hope to make this a series. Anaheim has been by far the more physical and slower team in this series they outhit the Sharks in both games but struggled in game 2 with giveaways at a difference of 13-7. The Ducks has lost one of their stars in Cam Fowler who is unlikely to return this series and did not travel to San Jose.

The desperation of the Ducks will not be something that the Sharks will be able to match so they will be forced to absorb an early barrage and keep disciplined if they hope to win Game 3. Also, something to keep an eye on is the Ducks goalie situation although the Ducks coach has said he is sticking with Gibson if he struggles early then you could see him reach to try to find a spark with Ryan Miller. San Jose will be too much at home and will sustain the Ducks pressure early and use the crowd’s energy late and find a way to effectively kill off this series and move within one game of the second round.
