The Arizona Coyotes will take on the L.A. Kings tonight at the Staples Center tonight. They are current buoyed by the hot play of their goaltender, Adin Hill. However, they are matched up against a fully healthy Jonathan Quick in net for the Kings. Besides that wrinkle, this is a truly a game with some other interesting sub-plots. This definitely should go down to be an enjoyable game to watch and wager on.

Los Angeles Kings

The Kings have been hit by injuries and are looking to climb out of the Pacific cellar. There is no question that they missed the contributions of goalie Jonathan Quick, who was out for 13 games with a knee injury. They were happy to see that he rebounded against Carolina last Sunday night, stopping 34 shots and helping the Kings cruise to a two to zip victory and notching him his 50th shut-out of his career.

Quick is now the 30th goaltender in the history of the NHL to reach 50 shutouts, and he is also the leader in shutouts among American-born goaltenders. Another interesting storyline in this matchup would be the brother vs. brother concept. Adrian Kempe of the Kings will be squaring off against his older brother Mario with the Coyotes. Not only that, but they will be playing in front of their parents as well.

Arizona Coyotes

Even though goalie Adin Hill is off to a fast start in his burgeoning NHL career, he definitely is one for humility. During one of his recent interviews, he said that it is “a team effort when a goalie has success.” However, he was definitely deserving of the NHL Second Star of the Week because of his efforts so far. He posted an 0.43 goals against average and a .983 save percentage in his seven periods of work. Moreover, the Coyotes are coming off a 6-1 blowout against St. Louis Saturday night where Hill turned aside 25 shots on goal.

As long as Jonathan Quick is healthy, I like the Kings in this game simply because of how well he has been playing. The man has been nothing but consistent all year long. Of course, the other variable would be Adin Hill of the Coyotes. If he continues his dominant play, it will be a close game when they square off against the Kings tonight. Thus, although I like the Kings for a straight-up bet, I have to admit this might be a good game for betting against the spread as well.

The Kings are also going for their third straight home win, which would be the first time since last season that has occurred. So yes, this would be a bit of a gutsy to go with the Kings. However, there is one other variable to consider: Adin Hill is only the backup goalie for the Coyotes, and coach Rick Tocchet has not yet committed to him playing. The Kings seem motivated because of Quick, so they take it in a close one.

Pick: Arizona Coyotes +1.5
