ESPN NHL Scores: Detroit Red Wings vs. Boston Bruins
After losing 4-1 to the Florida Panthers last night, the Boston Bruins look to get back into the swing of things, against the (currently) 4th worst team in hockey.
If I may, the team with the best record in the league over the last week (the Detroit Red Wings) is riding one of its longest streaks of the season, as they welcome the Bruins to Little Caesars Arena.
When you share a division with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the room for error is slight to none-at-all. Meaning, the Bruins needed to be better than perfect to hit first-place in the Atlantic Division, so despite their best efforts, they will enter the playoffs as the number two seed.
This is important to note because the Bruins have had this spot locked up for a while and the need for wins has dropped significantly since earning a playoff spot. And with a loss to the Florida Panthers, are the Bruins already looking to the first round?
If anyone has anything to say about it, its Brad Marchand (97 points in 77 games), David Pastrnak (36 goals in 62 games), and Patrice Bergeron (77 points in 62 games). Their better-than stellar play has helped the Bruins amass the 6th best CorsiFor% and 3rd best power play.
The real difference maker is the team save percentage of .914, which currently ranks fourth.
The combination of a strong offense, possession, and above average goaltending, results in the Bruins carrying the second most points this season.
Detroit Red Wings
In the most recent four-game winning streak, the Red Wings top lines have shined. Dylan Larkin walked away with six points while Andreas Athanasiou had four points and Anthony Mantha earned seven points.
Not to be missed, Tyler Bertuzzi’s play in the last three wins resulted in 7 points, with three goals and four assists.
It is still crazy to think that Dylan Larkin (97.7% PDO) and Anthony Mantha (96.7% PDO) have been “stars” for this team, but own such low PDO scores and oiSH% ratings. Both men owning less than 8% on-ice shooting percentages, meaning they had not received help from their linemates this season.
The 2019-19 season has been done for a while, for the Red Wings, but as they close out the final four games, watch for the top two lines to continue to open up as these forwards keep looking for better contracts, roles, and playing time going into the 2019-20 season.

Free NHL Predictions: Boston Bruins @ Detroit Red Wings
A “five-game winning streak for the Detroit Red Wings” doesn’t seem to come off of the tongue as “Lose for Hughes” does. Unfortunately for the Red Wings’ fans, it doesn’t appear the players are on the same page. After shutting out their competition for Jack Hughes, they certainly look determined to not improve this team through the draft.
That being said, coming to Detroit is a very strong Boston Bruins team. The same Bruins team that has lost their last two games to the Red Wings, but also the team that beat the Wings 8-2 in October.
We know what’s possible and we know this game doesn’t mean too much for either team, but I can’t see the Bruins limping into the playoffs and I also don’t see three wins in four nights in the cards for the Red Wings
