Two of the best teams in the NHL will clash in Florida. The Calgary Flames have been in first in the Pacific Division since the end of November, but lost their first place spot last night, because the San Jose Sharks have won six in a row. The Flames are on a two game losing streak and the rest of their four game road trip will be tough, with stops in Tampa Bay, Florida, and Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, the Lightning have been striking every team in the league since the drop of the puck in October. Tampa Bay is first in the Atlantic Division by 15 points and will cruise the last quarter of the season. The starting goalies for this game are David Rittich vs Andrei Vasilevskiy.
The Calgary Flames are 6-2-2 in their last ten games and currently sit a point back of the Sharks for first in the Pacific. The Flames also have two games in hand on San Jose and they will look to reclaim first again quickly. Calgary has lost three of their last four games and they have had some okay goaltending. The Flames have been having good starts in their last few games and just not being to sustain that effort for 60 minutes. They have had some great depth scoring and Mark Giordano had a couple good assist games going. Calgary lost to Tampa Bay back on December 20th in a 5-4 shootout game. The Johnny Gaudreau line did well in that game and they will need to step it up again if they want to have a chance in Tampa.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are also 6-2-2 in their ten games. Tampa Bay has the best record at home at 21-5-2 and also have an amazing offense. They have a two game winning streak and scored five plus goals in those games as well. Before the mini winning streak, they were shutout at home by the lowly St. Louis Blues and lost to the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2. These losses must have fueled them because they played well against the Penguins and Panthers for some solid victories. Nikita Kucherov put up two goals and one assist in their latest win over the Panthers and he put up two assists last time his team faced the Flames. Look for another strong effort tonight from Tampa.
