NHL Picks and Parlays: Dallas Stars vs. Buffalo Sabres
The Stars begin their brief two-game road trip tonight in Buffalo, against a team they have won seven of the last eight against and who is also missing their franchise star due to suspension, Jack Eichel. Dallas is coming off a tough 2-1 home loss to the Chicago Blackhawks and hanging onto a one-point lead for the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. The team is 6-4-0 in their last 10 games played and prior to Sunday had been on a four-game win streak. The Stars are led by leading scorer Tyler Seguin, but Jamie Benn and Ben Bishop have experienced the most success against this Sabres team. Benn has scored nine goals in fourteen career contests against Buffalo and Bishop owns a career 11-0-1 record with a 1.48 GAA against them. While recent team and individual success against a franchise will give them confidence, Dallas is already in playoff mode where every point counts. Look for them to come out strong and take advantage of a shorthanded Buffalo team.
The Sabres enter tonight the losers of four straight games and are 2-6-2 in their last 10 games played. As mentioned above, they will be without their Captain and leading scorer in Jack Eichel, who was suspended for a hit he laid on Colorado Avalanche forward Carl Soderberg. Adding insult to injury, Jeff Skinner, Buffalo’s leading goal scorer with 36, hasn’t scored in eleven-straight games. The team currently sits 6th in the Atlantic Division and ten points out of a Wild Card spot. While the team endured a great stretch of success to begin the season, growing pains ensued and with only fourteen games remaining in their regular season, the playoffs are yet again not a reality. A bright spot for the Sabres has been their play at home where they are 19-10-4 and the play of goalie Carter Hutton, who is expected to start tonight. Hutton owns a 2.82 GAA and .912 SV% on the year and has kept the team in many games. While the teams recent play and Eichel’s absence doesn’t bode well for the teams chances, the team’s goaltending and home ice success may allow them to hang around in this one.
