ESPN NHL Scores: Buffalo Sabres vs. Detroit Red Wings

After winning 3-straight games, the Red Wings ran into an offensive buzz saw and (despite scoring three goals) a terrific performance from Marc-Andre Fleury. The Wings hope to bounce back in Buffalo.

The Buffalo Sabres are happy to welcome the struggling Wings to the key Bank Center. Though they hold a record above .500, the Sabre find themselves 4 points out of a Wild Card spot. Their energetic performances at home (15-7-4) should prove to make some difference.

Detroit Red Wings

As stated, the Detroit Red Wings lost their 3-game winning streak to the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night. As an attendee of the game, you could visibly see the lack of speed and pace from the Red Wings as well as the injured state of star player Dylan Larkin.

Furthermore, Dylan Larkin is leading the way for this group but did not look well after his first game since suffering an injury. His 51 points in 53 games are a sneeze away from being a point-per-game, but it is even more impressive when you consider his low PDO score of 98.1 and his low oiSH% of 7.8%.

The Red Wings are still in the middle of the league when it comes to shot% (9.5) and save% (90.3), but their devastatingly low CorsiFor% (47.5) will ensure the losses will continue to come.

Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres are just outside of playoff contention (4 points away). When deciphering the reasons why, the Sabres reveal themselves to be a less than average shooting team (8.9%) and below average defensive team (49.8 CorsiFor%, 658 blocked shots, 963 hits, and 90.5 oiSV%).

With the least amount of blocked shots in the league and fourth worst in hits, the Sabres need to become more aggressive and physical to make that playoff push.

The Sabres currently rely on speed to best their opponents, with the likes of Jack Eichel and Rasmus Dahlin, but the lack of a more aggressive strategy could doom their chances for this season.

Cover the Spread 365

The Red Wings will play this one tight, as they always do. Even when getting spun in circles, by the Vegas Golden Knights, the Wings still found a way to make it close at the end (4-3). The Sabres have had 7 or more goals, total, in nine of their last ten games. With the way the Wings will pressure the top line, I expect this one to be low scoring.
