ESPN NHL Scores: Detroit Red Wings vs. Vegas Golden Knights

Winning two games in the last week was not a part of the Red Wing’s plans to tank the season away. Losing to the Blues on Thursday was. Will the Wings build a new streak of less than mediocrity?

Two different streaks are currently rolling for the Golden Knights. A four-game winning streak and a three-game streak of scoring more than five goals. Their next opponent is a prime candidate to prolong that streak.

Detroit Red Wings

When you’re a bad team, you’re expected to lose whether you’re home or away. For the Red Wings and their 12-20-5 record, losing on the road is almost a certainty.

The Red Wings’ injury list continues to grow (Mike Green, Jonathan Ericsson, Trevor Daley, Libor Sulak, and Justin Abdelkader) and the most significant hit is to the blue line. The Red Wings already struggle as a possession team and have allowed the 4th most goals against. A depleted d-core will not help.

The forwards have been performing up to the low standard, but its Dylan Larkin (while injured) who has seen his point-pace slip. IF anyone needs to wake-up its Dylan Larkin. And with the terrible looking defense, expect the Wings to be forced into a more open game.

Vegas Golden Knights

With only eight games left on the schedule, the Vegas Golden Knights have all but secured their third spot in the Pacific Division. It was in their most recent streak of four straight wins and a 9-1 record in their last ten, that has kept the Wild Card opponents at bay.

The Golden Knights should be secure in their playoff spot as the second best possession team in the league. The high shots totals have helped them run up the score, as of late, and it doesn’t hurt that William Karlsson has a new found level of production with 7 points in the last three games.

The Golden Knights don’t have a point-per-game player (although trading for Mark Stone has helped considerably). What Stone added was another powerful weapon to an already balanced set of four lines. He didn’t need to be as important as he was to the Senators, but his 8 points in 11 games are close enough.

Free NHL Predictions: Detroit Red Wings @ Vegas Golden Knights

Almost two months ago, these two teams played an even game that resulted in a win for the Golden Knights. That was in Detroit. Being in Vegas and seeing this amazingly hot streak for the Knights continue, I don’t know how the Wings are going to be able to slow them down. Even if the injuries weren’t as severe as they are, the Wings would struggle.
