Free NHL Game Prediction Wild vs. Sabers

Buffalo Sabers (10-20-9) vs. Minnesota Wild (21-16-3)

Free NHL Game: Thursday January 4th, 8:00 PM @Xcel Energy Center

Spread: Sabers +1.5, Wild -1.5

Over/Under: 5.5

The Minnesota Wild come into this game at 21-16-3. The Wild are 3-2 in their last 5 games. Minnesota has 45 points on the season which puts them in 5th place in the Central Division. Eric Staal has been a one man recking crew for this Wild team. Staal has 35 points, 17 goals and 18 assists. All of which lead Minnesota except for assists, which is lead by Ryan Suter with 19. Minnesota is middle of the pack in goals per game (17th) and goals against (14th). What the Wild have done really well is power play success rate (16th) and penalty kill (4th).

The Buffalo Sabers are just 10-20-9 this season. Buffalo has won just 2 games in their last 5. So far this season, the Sabers have just 29 points which puts them in 8th place in the Atlantic Division. Just like Minnesota, Buffalo has one guy who has been dominate. That guy is Jack Eichel. Eichel has 35 points, 15 goals, and 20 assists, which leads Buffalo in all of these categories. There is no question why this team only has 10 wins this season. Buffalo is ranked 31st in goals per game, 28th in goals against, and 30th in power play success rate. The only thing that this team has done alright is penalty kill, where they rank 13th in the league.

This game seems like a slam dunk. Minnesota is the better team in this matchup. The Wild are 13-4-2 at home this season, and are easily two goals better than the Sabers. What is interesting for Buffalo is the goals per game in their last 5. In Buffalo’s last 5 games, there have been at least 5 goals scored in every single one. For Minnesota, in their last 3 wins, they have scored at least 4 goals per game. To me, this sounds like the over of 5.5 is going to be reached. Take the Minnesota Wild to win this game, cover the spread, and bet the over.

#Sabres as a group should be livid in the third period. They dominated first period and pushed the pace. They lounged in second period and got posterized by Zegras and Milano. #Sabres leaders need to grab the individuals and drag them by the scruff of the neck the battle

Go to Sonny Milano’s YouTube channel. Milano has been making truck shot videos for nearly a decade. His #FlyTogether teammate and house mate @tzegras11 clearly watches Milano’s content.
Now you know why Ducks didn’t trade Zegras to #Sabres in Eichel deal

Notes on the #Buffalo #Sabres trying to push the offensive pace and their best goal pace in 11 years, Malcolm Subban's status and more:

#Sabres acting like they played last night in Washington. They have taken their foot of the gas ⛽️ pedal
