As the Rangers come to town, it is a game of desperation for the Wild, who are fighting for their playoff lives and trying to break out of a three game losing funk. New York enters tonight with presumably heavy legs, playing their fourth game in six nights and having to make the trip from Calgary last night. The Rangers have lost all three games this week, including last night when they were outclassed by the Flames 5-1. The score was tied after 1 but New York succumbed two goals on just five shots in the second period and they could not recover. Minnesota is playing the third of a five game home stand, in which they have gone win-less so far. On Thursday, the Wild failed to gain ground on Dallas, losing 4-1 and playing largely uninspired for a team that needs points more than anybody. Both teams are in the midst of losing skids and looking to snap them.

Minnesota Wild

Minnesota continues to be unpredictable and streaky, leaving fans and betters alike frustrated at the teams seemingly complete lack of identity. They have had multiple winning streaks immediately followed by periods of losses, including now as they have gone 1-3-2 after winning five in a row. This stretch has put the wild outside the last wild card spot, leaving them three points behind the Coyotes with 11 games left. A win versus the Stars could have left them within one point of two teams but now they are fighting an uphill battle.

The Wild’s home ice deficiency is very worrying as they are 14-15-6 overall on the year and have won just one of their last 10 contests at home going 1-6-3. Minnesota has also only posted one goal in the two games on their home stand so far and have just three goals in their last three following the shut out win in Tampa Bay. Their scoring woes can be solved with more production from their top forwards as both Zach Parise and Eric Staal have been point-less in the teams last three outings.

New York Rangers

The Big Apple’s second best team has endured their own losing woes, except theirs has lasted the entire month of March and has been filled with what College sports fans would call”quality” losses. The rangers are 1-4-5 in the last 10, amassing an awful amount of OT and shoot-out losses, surpassing or tying the total of many teams season total. The post-regulation losing draws negative ire of both fans and players as the team must be frustrated being in so many close games and continually falling short, while the fans are upset they are losing in bunches but keep gaining points and hurting their draft positioning.

New York has only managed to top the 2 goal mark once since the beginning of the month and have seen their goalies face at least 30 shots each game. Top scorer Mika Zibanejad’s cooling off has played a role. After starting the new year off on a torrid pace (27p in 26G)  he has found the scoresheet only three times in 8 March games and is without a goal. The Rangers are also looking to improve on a rough 11-19-5 road record and break a streak of four losses in a row away from MSG.

FREE NHL Prediction New York Rangers vs Minnesota Wild

Both teams are slumping and both clubs seem to have an affinity for the under. Obviously Minnesota has a lot mote to play for but that has not stopped them from playing poorly before and it is difficult to predict when a team will gain some fire. Won’t lie, the Wild’s 1-18 record ATS in home games is very scary but the Rangers hold the third fewest road victories this season and seem primed to break Minnesota’s snide. It should be a tough, tight knit game but I think the Wild will come out with more to prove and will be able to eek out the win with a high potential for Overtime.
