On Thursday night the Nashville Predators host the Montreal Canadiens in hopes of shrugging off their three game losing streak. Nashville has been no stranger to frequent action, as they are halfway through a stretch of 14 games in just 26 days. Some could say to many games and not enough rest is the problem the Predators are having after splitting their last 12 games. Coming off back-to-back home game losses to the St. Louis Blues and the Detroit Red Wings the Predators will have to step it up against a very hot Canadiens team.

Against the Red Wings the Predators kept it close but Detroit’s Andreas Athanasiou scored the game winner with 4:08 left in the third period to get the 3-2 victory. Nashville’s Viktor Arvidddon and P.K. Subban both scored a goal while goaltender Pekka Rinne stopped 24 of 27 shots it wasn’t enough to get the win. Last Month Nashville lost to the Wings 4-3 in overtime and the very next game they responded with one of their better games of the season beating the Canadiens 4-1 in Montreal. Following a similar recipe tonight could be just what Nashville plans on doing.

As for Montreal, they have been on fire with just one regulation loss in their last 11 games. Tonight’s match-up is the first of eight games for the Canadiens over the span of 13 days, but Montreal is hoping some new faces can help keep their playoff push alive. The Canadiens were able to acquire forward Dale Weise and defense-men Christian Folin in a four-player trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. They also added Nate Thompson in a separate deal with the Los Angeles Kings.

Montreal last played a game on Saturday against the Toronto Maple Leaf’s, so they should be well rested. The game went into overtime where Toronto’s John Tavares scored two minutes and 17 seconds into overtime to give the Maple Leaf’s a 4-3 victory. Brendan Gallagher, Andrew Shaw and Tomas Tatar all scored one goal while Goaltender Carey Price had 28 saves but it wasn’t enough to get the win.

The Last time the Predators played the Canadiens they had one of their better performances of the season beating Montreal 4-1. Since then Nashville has slowed down while the Canadiens have played red hot. The Canadiens are playing some of their best hockey of the season, especially as underdogs winning seven of their last 10. Nashville could very well win this game, but Montreal is playing so well and coming off four days of rest i’m going to pick them in a low scoring game.
