Welcome to this Atlantic Division matchup between the Montreal Canadiens and the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Canadiens are having a nice season. They are in third place in the division, a plus four in goal differential, and 7-3 in their last ten games. Montreal has been in a win-loss mode for weeks now and thats why they have hovered more towards the middle of the division standings. The Canadiens have had a good mix of high scoring games and close ones. Tomas Tatar leads the team in points with 32. The Lightning aren’t on top of the league this season, but they are still playing good hockey. They are sixth in the division race, but they have a few games in hand on the other teams. Tampa is fourth in scoring within the division and they have the third best goal differential at 13. They are 5-4-1 in their last ten games. The Lightning have been playing good defensive hockey and their scoring seems to be steady. Nikita Kucherov leads the team in points with 40. The starting goalies for this game are Carey Price and Andrei Vasilevskiy for Tampa Bay.
The Canadiens are coming off of a 6-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets. Montreal scored in every period and put a stranglehold on the game in the second. The Canadiens only had two players in the negative with plus/minus points and a lot of the core talent, had positive points. The depth scoring was there and a few guys put up a high shot total. Montreal put up 48 shots on net and just played a great 60 minutes of hockey. They took care of the puck, blocked shots, and even scored on the power play. They will need this type of effort against a Tampa Bay team that is very tough to beat on the road. Look for the defense to lead the way and the offense will do just enough to stay in the game.
The Lightning are coming off of a 6-1 win over the Florida Panthers. The Bolts struck quickly and scored three goals in the first and scored throughout the game. Two of their core players led the way. Victor Hedman scored two goals and picked up one assist and Steven Stamkos had two assists. They could have won more faceoffs, but the shot total was solid and the power play struck three times. No skater had negative points and it was a good mix of the offense and defensive contributing in the chances and good neutral zone play. Tampa Bay is third in the league in offense, but their defense is 23rd. The scoring is always there for them, but the defense needs to be able to lock things a little better and it seems to be trending that way for them.

So, who will win this Canada vs Florida matchup? The Canadiens have their best players leading the way for them. Their top line is leading the way for them and Shea Weber is among the best defensemen in the league. Also, Max Domi has six points over the last three games. The Lightning have also been a good home team and Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov are putting up their usual point production. The Bolts will try to make great use of their power play production against the Canadiens good defense. Both of the goalies are still trying to find their old A game. Lately, Price has been playing solid on the road and Vasilevskiy is still playing inconsistent. One day he gives up four goals and the next, it is just one. This will probably be a race to three goals type of game. With both of these teams coming off of high scoring wins, things should settle down just a tad. Lightning win 4-3.
