Nashville continues their bid for the Central division crown as they host the Wild for the second game of a home and home between the sides. The first match-up on Sunday saw the Preds take it in a 3-2 shootout win as Filip Forsberg tied the game late in the third period and Ryan Johansen potted the shootout winner. Nashville outshot the Wild 43-26 and dominated the third frame with a 14-3 shot advantage. Sunday was a battle of the back-up goalies and tonight sees the starters take the reigns again.

Nashville Predators

The Predators have been a strange team the last month or so. They are keeping pace with the Jets in the division standings point wise but have also played three more games than them. Their placement is vital as it is the difference between facing the surging Blues or the first wild card team in the first round. Nahville’s offense has been struggling, only scoring three goals sans shootout once in the last six games and have been shutout twice in that span.

Home ice has served as a big advantage for the Preds this year and they will need to capitalize on it to get the win tonight. They are 21-12-1 overall in Nashville and have gone 16-2-0 when scoring first and have yet to lose on home ice when leading after the first period (10-0-0).

Minnesota Wild

The Wild faced their first loss in six games on Sunday and have been an extremely streaky team. They followed a five game losing skid with five wins in a row including two road victories against western power houses Winnipeg and Calgary. Newly acquired Ryan Denato has played a big role since being traded from Boston, posting 7 points in his six games as a member of Minnesota and only going point-less in one contest, the last game against Nashville.

Net-minder Devan Dubnyk ranks in the top ten for wins this season and has a personal five game win streak going, allowing 2 or fewer goals in every game during that period. He has also fared much better on the road than in front of a home crowd (10-11-4 vs 16-10-1) and has gone an impressive 10-3-1 vs Central division opponents.

FREE Prediction Minnesota Wild vs Nashville Predators

This game is a really tough call, Nashville has shined at home but Minnesota has shown a knack for winning on the road and are 7-1-1 away from home since the beginning of February. A 5.5 total is also very low but both clubs seem to have an affinity for the under as of late and it is hard to predict when they will buck that trend so I think tonight will be another grind out close call. The Wild are only 1-4 in their last five trips to Nashville but they have been the better team as of late and are facing a Preds team with tired legs so I think they will pull off the upset bid in a close one.
