Welcome to this Central Division matchup between the St. Louis Blues and Winnipeg Jets. The Blues are having another nice season. They are first in the division, third in goals against in the West, 7-3 in their last ten games, and have won six games in a row. St. Louis is clicking on all cylinders with a lot of goals and rock solid defense. The Blues are one of those teams that turn good defense into great offense. They will break you down with hits and can make something out of nothing. David Perron leads the team in points with 37. The Jets are having a nice season. They are third in the division, a little above .500 in goal differential, and 5-4-1 in their last ten games. The Jets have had all sorts of high scoring games and a few close ones. They should be able to keep up with the Blues high scoring ways, but their defense needs to tighten things up. Mark Scheifele leads the team in points with 39. The starting goalies for this game are Jordan Binnington for St. Louis and Connor Hellebuyck for Winnipeg.
The Blues are coming off of a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. St. Louis was actually outhit by LA in this game, but luckily the only score that matters is scoring goals. The Blues were a perfect two for two on the power play and of course they did very well in blocking shots. St. Louis set the tone early, by scoring four goals in the first period. Once this team has a good lead, they don’t usually give it up and they lock things down even more on their end. They could have tried to steal the puck more, but at least they didn’t give the puck away that much. Their usual key guys got the job done and no one had negative points. St. Louis has always been a good road team and they will try to duplicate this effort in Canada.
The Jets are coming off of a 6-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. The ice was completely titled towards the Winnipeg side of the ice. The Canadiens outshot the Jets 48-29. The Jets were outshot in every period and could barely get any good looks on net in the second and third. Almost the whole Jets roster was in the negative with minus points and they gave the puck away a lot. Winnipeg did steal the puck a little bit and blocked a few good shots. The only positives were the faceoff wins and getting a goal on the power play. They were also very physical. The Jets will try to match the Blues with their physical play, but if they don’t do better with puck possession, St. Louis will make them pay for it.
NHL Scores St. Louis Blues vs Winnipeg Jets
So, who will win this matchup between two high scoring teams? The Blues are going through one of their best stretches of the season. Four of their last six wins have been by two goals or more. Also, they have given up two goals or less in five of those games. Their plus/minus have been mostly solid and Binnington has won four straight games. The Jets have a 6-3-1 record against the Central and they will look to rebound after their ugly loss to Montreal. Winnipeg is one of the best teams around when the games are close and maybe they can end the Blues win streak if they tighten things up early. Hellebuyck is coming off of a shutout, but is save percentage numbers haven’t been too great. The difference in the game will be the Blues hot power play against the shaky Jets penalty kill. Blues win 4-2.
