After the Bruins took care of business in Game 1, the comeback Blues once again bounced back with an all around great team game and won Game 2 3-2 in overtime. It was a back and forth game, but the Blues pretty much fixed everything that they did wrong in the first game. They played desperate, brought their physical game back, and even outshot the Bruins badly. The Boston Bruins haven’t lost that much at home this postseason and once again it took an overtime defeat to bring the Bs down. Boston is still playing great hockey and it’s their turn to fix things up. Game 3s goalies are Tuukka Rask vs Jordan Binnington.

For the first time in awhile in these Stanley Cup playoffs, the Bruins are facing a little adversity. Boston was on cruise control and now they got a case of the Blues. The Bruins top guys were completely shut down in Game 2 and it showed most of the game. Boston did still show that their power play is strong and they cashed in on special teams, and were rewarded with an early lead. However, from there the Bruins played on their heels and they weren’t ready for the Blues attack. Sure both teams had great looks, especially in the third period, but you can see the extra fight in the stride of St. Louis. Rask still played well and made 34 saves. It was his first time giving up more then 3 goals in six games. Still a strong statistic right there. Also, the Bruins have won four straight road games and two of those were shutouts. Look for Boston to tighten the defense up again and Rask to shine once more.

The Blues just won their first ever Stanley Cup Final game and now they get to celebrate that accomplishment with home ice. St. Louis got back to their hitting ways and outhit Boston 50-31. Also, after being badly outshot in Game 1, the Blues won that statistic 37-23. Then you had Vladimir Tarasenko scoring another big goal for his team and he now has an eight game point streak going. Binnington came up huge on a few point blank chances for the Bruins, but in overtime he didn’t need to do much. The Blues had all the puck possession and zone time for the four minutes of extra time, and they scored the game winning goal on a delayed penalty. St. Louis has momentum back on their side and they also have a three game home winning streak. If you take away the 5-1 win over a wounded Sharks team, the Blues have had three straight 2-1 games at home. That shows that they have trouble scoring. What will help is getting those power play goals. St. Louis is 0-5 in this series and Boston’s two power play goals have tied the game or given them the lead. Now that both teams have a couple games to look at, this Game 3 will come down to that extra chance.

NHL Playoffs Boston Bruins vs St. Louis Blues

So, who will win Game 3? The Bruins know they can play better and we have seen their full potential in the second half of this playoff run. They need to get back to getting pucks on net and screening Binnington. Having that extra jump to get those rebounds, and create time and space, will lead to scoring chances, and potential power play opportunities. The Blues need to continue to block shots and frustrate the Bruins with hits. They need to continue to do it enough and maybe it will lead to a nice penalty. Converting on the power play will make or break the Blues in this game. Also, they did play well last game, but how about a dominating win to really make the Bs sweat. It would be a great statement, but this will be a Bruins 3-1 win.
